The next morning I wake up feeling better than yesterday, the aches are dull and the headache is gone. Plus, my temperature is fine. That makes me a happy bunny.
I brush my teeth and shower, throwing on my soft slim leg joggers and a tee. Today I intend to spend my time working on Lucifer, considering I've been practically absent for a day and a half.
Hearing movement in the kitchen, I head in that direction first.
"Do you want a hot chocolate?" I offer, walking across the kitchen.
"Kali." Hardin's voice is low, slightly off.
Raising my head, I turn to look at him with a slight frown, getting the feeling that something is wrong. His expression seems distant, somewhat relieved as his eyes gaze at my flat stomach.
"It worked?" I question softly, knowing he wouldn't be reacting like this if he couldn't smell it.
"It's faint, but there's no denying it." He confirms, snapping out his gazing and giving me a smile.
"I know it feels wrong...lying about something like this. But if we want everyone to be safe, and still be together...we need to make sure we sell this." I say, closing the distance between us and hugging him.
"I know." He murmurs, kissing my head.
"I'll call him and then I'm going to work with Lucifer. Do you want to help?" I offer, craning my neck slightly as I look up at him.
"I went out earlier to give him some water, the fucker nearly had my face." Hardin decides to tell me, scowling.
I just laugh. "I did warn you not to go near him."
After making us a hot chocolate each, I grab mine and head outside, balancing a bowl of dog biscuits in the other hand along with the training dummy. Setting everything down on the grass, I offer Lucifer the dish of food.
He instantly comes towards it without much thought, as he begins chomping the biscuits, I bring the training dummy towards the bowl. Lucifer instantly stiffens, eyes darkening as he bares his canines.
And then he snaps.
"No." I correct, sliding the dish away with a stick and proceeding to use the training dummy to feed him.
He bites the first few times, snatching the food, and then simply growls lowly for about half an hour. The dog is a big stubborn beast, but the more I do this the more he should realise that his attitude isn't doing him any favours.
"I bet you're just a big old softie underneath, just need a little love and a lifetime of patience." I say softly, like he's going to understand me.
He just growls in warning, and I sigh.
As I feed him, I call Roman and fill him in on my pregnancy. Making it clear that it wasn't intentional, that I want to be the first to tell him before he finds out from someone else. I sell the story, begging him to not hurt my family, saying anything that needs to be said.
But Roman is Roman.
"He's on his way." I tell Hardin as I head back inside some time later, leaving the dog to lay down on the grass.
"He hasn't made any appearances near pack land yet, this could actually work." Hardin sighs, his tone hopeful.
Naturally we both have some doubt, Romans reputation isn't to be taken as a joke. I watched the man grab a rogue by its jaw and tear it in half, when he was done the rogues face was so torn off that's it's tongue nearly touched the ground.
"I hope so." I mumble, sitting next to him and resting my head on his muscular bicep. He immediately lifts said arm, wrapping it around my waist and drawing me closer.
