The arrows flew through the air and went over the heads of the prisoners before hitting the target.
Everything went silent for a split second before Nie Mingjue started clapping, followed by Xichen and Jiang Cheng. Soon the disciples were also clapping.
Wei Ying took the band off his head and wrapped it around his wrist again, walking back to his spot.
"The opening shooting," Jin Guangyao began, "is to warm you up. Of course, you all are qualified to participate. So how about canceling the opening ceremony?" He gestured to the forest, " Please start the hunt now."
The groups began to go to the forest and separated. Xue Yang, like always, stayed mear Wei Ying and Xingchen.
The three walked down a path and sat down after a while.
Wei Ying brought the flute to his lips and created a soft, smooth melody. Xue Yang looked around and made sure everything was clear. While Xingchen looked around uncomfortably.
Wei Ying stopped after a while. He looked around and saw Wangji, he smiled and opened his mouth to say something but stopped. Remembering Xichen's words from the tavern.
Xingchen, noticed this and smiled softly. He called out, "Young Master Lan!"
Wangji turned to the sound and saw the group. He walked up the small hill while Wei Ying mentally prepared himself for the upcoming events.
He stood up, "Lan Zhan, I heard you are tired of amending your family rules recently in Cloud Recesses."
Wangji got straight to the point, "I made some progress in composing the music score, and I wanted to share it with you to see how it works."
Wei Ying sighed, "Lan Wangji, Lan Wangji, who do you take me for? Can't you leave me alone?"
Wangji looked down, "Who do you take me for?"
Wei Ying looked down as well, "I once treated you as my soulmate."
"I still am," Wangji said. Both of them looked up into each other's eyes.
Wei Ying raised his flute and looked down at it, he looked up at Wangji again.
Xue Yang heard footsteps and whispered, "Someone's coming," he pulled Xingchen behind a tree. Wei Ying followed his footsteps.
They looked down the hill amd saw Yanli and Jin Zixuan. Wei Ying and Xue Yang looked at each other with frowns.
"I have guessed that Madam Jin would ask Yanli to come out alone with Young Master Jin." Xue Yang whispered.
"Yeah," Wei Ying raised his lip in disgust.
"Calm down you two," Xingchen said, "it's nothing wrong. You should be happy for them, not mad."
"But Uncle..." Wei Ying whined softly, "he treats her so badly."
"He only does that because he likes her," Xingchen replied.
"Forgot it!" They heard Jin Zixuan exclaim. They looked down again.
  "Sorry," Yanli said.
"You don't need to apologize. You can interpret it any way you like. After all, I'm not the one who invited you. Forget it if you are unwilling to come."
Wei Ying's breath hitched and he began to stand up but was stopped by Wangji. Instead he stuck with whispering, "You bastard. Anyway, Yanli will now see his true character and won't get involved with him anymore."
They looked back down and saw Yanli bowing her head, "Excuse me." She turned around to leave.
"Wait!" Jin Zixuan began as he started towards her.
Wei Ying had enough. He jumped up into the air and went down in between them. He slashed down with his flute but it was blocked by a sword.
Xue Yang went down as well and stood next to him, hand on the hilt of his sword.
"Wei Wuxian, why do you keep appearing?" Jin Zixuan asked.
"I should be asking that question," Wei Ying snapped. "Why are you here again?"
"You started it without a reason," the man replied. "Are you crazy?"
"Without a reason?" Xue Yang scoffed, "You are the reason!"
"Why did you get mad and stop her after being rejected?" Wei Ying asked.
"It I shouldn't stop her, should I leave her alone in this mountain?!" He drew his sword.
Xue Yang stepped in front of Wei Ying and Yanli and drew his own sword.
"Xue Yang!" Xingchen said sternly. He stood in between the two, "Don't even think about it, both of you."
They all heard footsteps running towards them, "What happened?" It was Jin Zixun. "Zixuan, did Wei Wuxian and his buddy cause you trouble again? Leave it to me."
Wei Ying rolled his eyes and began walking away with Yanli. "Wait!" Jin Zixuan said.
"Why?" Wei Ying asked, "Do you want another fight?"
Jin Zixun started towards him, "Wei Wuxian, what do you want? Why do you keep troubling Zixuan?"
"Who are you?" Xue Yang asked, stepping in front of Wei Ying.
"How dare you not know who I am?"
Xue Yang smirked and scoffed, "Why should I know?"
"You..." the man pointed at him. More footsteps arrived.
Madam Jin with more disciples. "Mother, why did you come?" Jin Zixuan asked.
"Don't be self-sentimental. I didn't come here for you." She turned to Yanli and walked towards her, she held the young woman's hands, "A-Li, why do you look upset?"
"I appreciate your concern," Yanli said, "but I'm fine."
Madam Jin turned around, "Did my intractable son bully you again?" She asked.
   Yanli shook her head, "No."
"Zixuan, what's wrong with you? What did you promise me before leaving?"
  "I-"
"No matter what your son promised you, Madam Jin," Wei Ying said, "from today on, he and Yanli no longer have any association with each other."
"Wei Wuxian!" Jin Zixun said, stalking towards the man. Xue Yang blocked him. "My aunt is your senior. How can you talk this way? Aren't you being too proud?"
"I didn't mean to disrespect Madam Jin. But your cousin has said harsh words to my sister yet again. If the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng can endure it again, we no longer deserve the name of a gentry clan.
"So how can you say that I'm too proud?"
"You are to proud to know yourself," the man replied. "Today is a big day for the night hunt. You are really the center! Thirty percent of the prey has been captured by you. Aren't you proud of yourself?"
Wangji turned to him, "Thirty percent?"
"Hanguang Jun," a man said, "you may not know yet. We were hunting just now. After a while, we were surprised to see that there was no prey in the hunting ground."
"Yes," another said. "After asking Master Lianfang, who was watching from the stands, we came to know that within 30 minutes, with a sound of a flute that came from Baifeng Mountain, almost all of the prey walked onto the mets set by the Jiang Clan one by one to sacrifice themselves-"
"Are you done yet?" Xue Yang spat.
