Chapter 8- Punishment

   "How dare you?!" Wen Chao yelled, he threw the whip but Wei Ying caught it.
    "Young Master Wen, do not try me," Wei Ying said and threw the whip back at the man. Wen Chao took a step back and moved his hand, the men got the signal moved forward. They threw ropes around Wei Ying and lifted him up.
    Wen Chao lifted the whip and Wangji stepped in front of Wei Ying with Xue Yang. Wen Chao lashed down and hit Wangji's leg, he turned to Xue Yang hit his side with the whip. The two men fell to the side and Wei Ying yelled, "Wen Chao! I'm the one who called you out, come at me if you can!"
    "It will be your turn soon!" Wen Chao yelled and hit Wei Ying with the whip.
     Xingchen ran forward with Zixuan, "Wen Chao, do not cross the line," Zixuan said.
     Xingchen ran to Xue Yang and grabbed his arm, "Are you alright?" He whispered.
    "Yeah, I'm used to this remember," Xue Yanf said standing up.
     "Oh I'm scared!" Wen Chao said before striking at Wei Ying again, this time, however, the whip was caught by Wangji.
     Wangji pulled the whip from his hand and threw it on the ground.
     "Put him down," Wen Chao said after a moment of hesitation. The men let go of the ropes and Wei Ying fell to the ground. Xue Yang and Wangji knelt down next to him and Xingchen stood beside them.
    "Are you alright?" Xue Yang asked.
     Wei Ying nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine."
    "You were probably asking Lan Wangji about the whereabouts of the Yin Iron, am I right?" Wen Chao asked, "It is here in Nightless City, what further questions do you have?"
    Wei Ying glared at the man along with Xue Yang, who was planning Wen Chao's death. 
   "You were on the right track," Wen Chao squatted down in front of the men, "we the Wen Clan have three shards if the Yin Iron. Thanks to the gentleman next to you, Second Young Master Lan." Wangji glared at him threateningly, but the man continued, "There is only one shard missing, if that bastard Xue Yang did not take it, then it must be you who hid it."
   Xue Yang opened his mouth to speak but Wei Ying looked at him, they exchanged words through their eyes. Don't say anything, Wei Ying's eyes said. Fine, Xue Yang responded.
    Wen Chao never noticed, "Lan Wangji has no idea where the shard is hidden, I cannot say the same about you."
    "Stop babbling, Wen Chao," Xue Yang said.
    "We, the Wen Clan of Qishan, would never wrong someone. As to whether you have a shard of the Yin Iron we have plenty of time to find out," the man left with no other words leaving the men alone.
     Xue Yang turned to Wei Ying, "Why didn't you say I had it?!" He asked smacking the back of the man's head.
     "Ow! I can't just let you get killed can I?" Wei Ying said rubbing the back if his head.
    "You know very well that I can't get killed," Xue Yang snapped.
     "Well that's too damn bad!" Wei Ying soat back, "It's over now!"
     "Alright!" Xingchen said getting between the two men, "let's try to figure about what we're going to do now."
    They all went silent when Wen Chao came back, "Wei Wuxian and Xue Yang, you're going to the dungeons."
    Xingchen and Wangji stood up in front of the two men on the floor.
    "What's the matter? Do you two want to join! The Wen Clan's dungeon is quite spacious," Wen Chao said. 
    They stared daggers into Wen Chao who looked a bit scared for a brief moment. Wei Ying stood up with the help of Xue Yang, he moved past his uncle and Wangji, "Young Master Wen, a dungeon is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. That's most welcome for us."
    "We'll see how tough you can be when you get there," Wen Chao said, "take them." The guards took Xue Yang and Wei Ying and pulled them away from the ithers.
    They put chains on the two men and walked into the dungeon. Xue Yang saw the many cells and smiled when they arrived to a specific one near the back. "You already prepared a suite for us, how kind of you."
    "There is something unique about this room," Wen Chao said, "you will see once you are there."
    "Young Master Wen how nice of you," Wei Ying said. The two men walked in with smiles on their faces but Wei Ying's vanished when he heard a growl and saw it.
    He ran out with a scream and Xue Yang stayed put. Wen Chao laughed, "Are you scared? Our Young Master Wei got scared," he said, "Wei Wuxian tell me something. If you stay with him in this room, do you think you can make it to sunrise?" He pushed Wei Ying in and closed the door.
   Xue Yang grabbed the man's arms, "Wei Wuxian, listen to me. You are not afraid of dogs, you are not afraid of that thing."
    Wei Ying turned around and saw the big dog raise it's snout, he screamed and ran to the door. "Open the door!" He yelled, "Open the door!" He banged on the door harshly and heard a voice coming from the other side.
   "Wei Wuxian, if you can survive the night, I will let you off the hook. If you die here, well then, you have no one to blame but yourself. Same with Xue Yang," Wen Chao said, he walked away with a laugh.
   "Wen Chao!" Wei Ying yelled, "Asshole! Open the door!" He looked back at the dog and fell down to the ground, "No...no..." he whispered.
   Xue Yang ran to him and knelt down, "A-Xian, it's alright," he said softly, "you'll be alright."
    "N-no," Wei Ying said cowering in the corner, "d-dog!"
    "Shh," Xue Yang got in between him and the dog, blocking the man's view, "just look at me. It's alright, nothing is going to hurt you anymore. You can't get hurt by him, I won't let it happen."
   "P-promise?" Wei Ying asked looking up with scared eyes.
    "I promise," Xue Yang said smiling comfortingly. He grabbed Wei Ying's shoulders, "You're going to be alright, let me handle this."
    "Ok," Wei Ying said shivering. Xue Yang nodded and stood up, he faced the dog and narrowed his eyes.
    "You remember me don't you?" He said, "I was the one who beat you when I was put in here for not completing my mission. With my bear hands at it! So be a good boy and back off."
    The dog whimpered at his tone and took a couple of steps back. Wei Ying watched in awe as Xue Yang got the dog to move away.
    "Good boy," Xue Yang said, "now lay down," the dog laid down on it's side, "I better not hear another growl of snarl. Got it? If I do, I'm beating you worse than ever, alright?" The dog whined and Xue Yang nodded, "Good."
   He walked back to where Wei Ying was sitting and sat down in front of him, "He shouldn't bother us anymore, alright?"
   Wei Ying nodded, "What were you saying about being here before?" He asked.
   "I used to work for the Wen's a lot, I did missions and agreed once to take a punishment. They brought me here and I stayed here for a whole night," Xue Yang explained, "I fought with him for a while and beat him. He obeys those to aren't scared of him and those who have a strong and stern voice."
    "You're brave then," Wei Ying muttered.
    "No, that's too much," Xue Yang said smiling, "so tell me, what's going on between you and Second Young Master Lan?"
