Wei Ying was the first to awake. He sat up and felt something on his face, memories returned and he wiped the tear marks. He looked around and saw Jiang Cheng sitting up with Xue Yang next to him. The man looked dead.
Xue Yang looked normal, just a little gloomy, "Let's go," Xue Yang said standing up. He helped Wei Ying up but when he got to Jiang Cheng the man wouldn't budge, "Don't forget that your sister is waiting for you." Jiang Cheng slowly got up and walked away, looking like a zombie.
They walked to the forest where they saw two figures sitting down. Xue Yang ran over and saw Xingchen and another young woman, "Xingchen," he said softly.
The man loomed up and saw him, "Xue Yang," he smiled widely and threw his arms around him, "you're alright."
"Yeah," Xue Yang winced quietly at the wound on his chest but hugged his friend back, "I'm alright starboy."
Xingchen chuckled, "Good," he let go and turned to Wei Ying, "a-Xian are you alright?"
Wei Ying looked at his sister who had just stood up, "A-Xian, how did it go?" The woman asked.
The man couldn't hold it in any longer and broke down. A tear fell from his eye and Jiang Cheng's face was twisted in pain.
    "A-Xian," Yanli said, "go ahead."
"They're dead," Xue Yang said softly, "all of them." A bright light shone in the sky as lightning struck and thunder rumbled.
The siblings began crying, "I don't believe you," Yanli wailed, "I don't believe you!"
Xingchen watched the woman slide down a tree to the ground and turned to Xue Yang, "Are they actually...?"
"Yes," Xue Yang said sadly, "they are."
Xingchen felt emotions start to overwhelm him, he couldn't stand watching his nephews cry and he remembered Madam Yu. The woman was truly misunderstood. He pushed his emotions back and breathed deeply, "We should go," he said.
"Yeah, they're probably after us and we need to get somewhere else," Xue Yang said, he grabbed Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying's arms, "I'm sorry, but we have to keep moving."
Wei Ying nodded and wiped his tears, "No it's fine, you're right."
Xingchen helped Yanli stand up and gently said, "A-Li, honey, I'm sorry but we need to keep going. Do you think you can do that for me really quickly?"
The woman nodded, "Y-yes," she sobbed.
"Thank you darling," Xingchen put an arm over the woman, his long sleeve covering her head and blocking the rain. They all walked to a nearby town where they found a small inn.
Xingchen paid for a night and they were led to their room. He saw Yanli's eyes dropping and led her to the bed, "Sleep, you need to rest for a while before we continue going."
The woman nodded and laid down. She closed her eyes and slept comfortably, as everyone else began to speak.
Wei Ying walked to Yanli and felt her forehead, "She's sick," he said, "I can go get some medicine while you all stay here."
"I'll come with you," Xue Yang said, "I need to get something as well."
"Okay, me and a-Cheng will stay here and take care of her," Xingchen said.
"Thanks, now let's go," Wei Ying said and walked outside with Xue Yang behind him.
Xingchen sat on the bed next to Yanli while Jiang Cheng sat at a table. He moved the woman's hair our of her face and felt her forehead really hot, "A-Cheng, can you go get me some cold water?"
The man nodded and walked out slowly. Xingchen waited and watched the woman sleep peacefully, he also felt tired but he couldn't sleep now.
He waited for a couple of minutes but Jiang Cheng hadn't returned. He stood up and walked to a nearby inn worker, "Excuse me, have you seen a man walk out of this room other than me?"
"Oh yeah he went outside and I think he went left," the man said.
"Thank you," Xingchen bowed to the an before running outside. He looked around and saw people walking down the rainy streets, he didn't see Jiang Cheng.
He was about to run out farther but stopped when he heard a voice, "Uncle?" He turned around and saw Yanli walking outside.
"A-Li, don't come outside you're sick," the man ushered her back inside and led her to the bed where she laid down again, "don't worry. Everything's fine, just rest."
"Alright," the woman closed her eyes then opened them again, "wait....where's a-Cheng?"
"He went to get water, at least that's what I told him to do," Xingchen said.
"Oh alright," Yanli closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep.
"We're back," Xue Yang announced as he and Wei Ying walked inside, "where is he?"
"A-Cheng went to get water," Xingchen said.
"You let him out?" Xue Yang asked.
"Yanli had a bad fever and needed something cold," Xingchen said, "I wasn't leaving her in case it got bad, so I sent a-Cheng."
"Has he come back?" Wei Ying asked.
"No," Xingchen said softer, "not yet."
"He's not coming back," Wei Ying said, "he left to go back to Lotus Pier."
"I'm sure he didn't," Xingchen said, "he might be coming back right now."
They waited, and waited....and waited. But Jiang Cheng didn't come back. "You idiot," Xue Yang muttered, "obviously he isn't coming back!" He walked up to Xingchen, "You shouldn't have let him out in the first place, he could've gone to Lotus Pier or maybe even put himself in danger!" He slapped Xingchen's cheek harshly earning a gasp.
"Xue Yang," Xingchen said darkly, holding his cheek, "calm down."
"Why? You probably just sent someone out to his death!" Xue Yang said.
"I'm sure he's fine," Xingchen said, "we can just go out and look for him."
"You're an idiot," Xue Yang said and slapping him again. Xingchen clenched his jaw and glared at the man, he lifted a hand and held it in the air. He clenched his fist and slowly put his hand down.
He walked back to Yanli and shook her shoulder gently, "A-Li, wake up."
"What happened?" The woman asked opening her eyes.
"A-Cheng hasn't come back," Xingchen said softly, "we need to go back for him. But you're going to with your grandmother."
Yanli slowly nodded, "Alright, I'll go."
