~Recap~

"There's a hero agency that way," without making eye contact, he pointed a gloved finger up the sidewalk. "Tell them what you want, but I won't be here if they show up. I have somewhere more important to be."

Turning his back towards the girl, he made his way back inside the base, but not before muttering one more thing to the girl.

He knows this one act won't bring you back, but...

"You're free, Eri."

'But, it's a start.'

~Present~

"And so...I'm relieving myself from Hassaikai duties."

Minimal time went by before Kai announced the current situation for the Shie Hassaikai.

"What you all choose to do from here is up to you, but I won't affiliate myself with this organization any longer."

The Eight Bullets and the precepts of the Hassaikai could only wordlessly gawk at their now former leader. You could hear a pin drop as the former Hassaikai members could only stare at their fallen leader. Though the expression on his face remained nonexistent, everyone in the room could agree that they've never witnessed the level of emotion within the man's eyes such a this.

You were gone, and it was blatantly clear to everyone in the organization that your departure had caused an excruciatingly painful rift down Kai's heart. A rift he couldn't blame on anyone but himself. Rather than talking to you and coming to a solution together, like a couple, a team, he went with his ideas to create a solution for you.

Though he hated to admit it, Kai's ideals seem to be getting him into more trouble as of late. Next to the situation with Pops, this is arguably the most trouble his stubborn nature has gotten him in.

"Now," massaging his temples, Kai pivoted on his heels, turning his back to his loyal subordinates. "The police and pro heroes should be here soon. Do whatever it is you see fit, but don't expect me to remain here."

Kai didn't bother to look at or listen for his subordinates' retaliation, for this situation had nothing to do with them. He's made a lot of mistakes in his life, many of which he thought he could live with, but this losing you, his voice of reason-was by far the largest of his mistakes. A mistake that he couldn't bring himself to live with.

It didn't take long for the man to leave the building behind, starting his trek down the street. Everything within the building was a blatant reminder of what caused the strain between you. From the eerie experiment room where most of Eri's life dwelled, all the way to the smallest area on the couch where you simply loved to prop your feet. Everything reminded him of you.

But you weren't there, and for that, no one was at fault but him.

"Chisaki."

By this time, the former Yakuza leader made it to the discreet back door of the Shie Hassaikai. Kai froze, his gloved hand remained gripped around the brass doorknob, remaining in place as he acknowledged his name being called.
