“Luna?”  A voice asked.  It was Layla.  I sighed.  Layla found me after just a moment.  “You're crying.”  She realized, crouching down to sit next to me.  I wiped a few tears, but more fell.  “What happened?  We've never heard you yell before.”  Layla questioned.  I shook my head, taking a breath.  “It wasn't that… Principal Powers called me to her office to tell me something this morning…”  I started.  Layla held her breath for a moment.  “My mom went on a mission late last night… And now nobody can contact her and they think the enemy captured her.”  I finished.  Layla tried telling me everything would be fine, but I wasn't sure it would be.

“I can't go home, Layla.  It'll be too quiet there, but I don't have anywhere else to go.”  I told her.  Layla sighed.  “I'm so sorry this happened to you.”  She muttered.  I wiped the few tears left and got up slowly.  “Can… Can you not tell the others?  I mean I'll tell them, but I don't want anyone else knowing just yet.”  I asked.  Layla nodded.  “Of course.  You can tell the others when you're ready to.”  She assured me.  I heard the bell ring.  Layla explained what I'd missed from the Save the Citizen match.  Speed and Lash tried playing dirty and got Warren to partner with Will.  But that ended up backfiring because they lost.

“At least they won't bother Hero Support anymore.”  I realized.  Layla nodded.  She must have noticed I stopped.  “I'll catch up later, I forgot something in my locker.”  I told Layla.  She nodded, leaving.  I had to put an extra folder away.  Just as I was turning the corner to go to class when I ran into someone.  As per my bad luck, it was Warren Peace.  But to my surprise, he didn't say anything rude this time.  Instead, he helped me up.  “I thought you hated everything?”  I asked.  Warren scoffed.  “I hate people comparing me to my father.”  He said stiffly.  I brushed my hair back slightly.  Warren walked away.  I quickly realized I looked stupid and walked towards my class with a red face.  By the end of the day, I told myself I was just being stupid probably a hundred times.

But there was still a problem.  Home was empty.  My mom wouldn't be there.  But I didn't want anyone else to figure that out, so I walked home first.  I did remember my mom had left a phone number to call in case something happened.  Guess this was that time.  I knew the number belonged to Will's parents, so it might be easier to explain in person.  I grabbed a few things and put them in a small bag.  Will's house wasn't too far away.  I grabbed the black phone from my mom's room.  The one she used to call my father.  There was a number on the back, which the case would cover once it was put back on the phone.  I also grabbed my charger and the note with Will's parents' number on it, in case they asked.  I could hear a conversation once I got close enough.

“So there we were in the middle of nowhere, and she's like, 'I can't change a tire! I can only change the weather!' and I'm like, 'Can you at least make it stop raining?' ”  I heard Will's dad say.  He was telling a story about him and my mom, unfittingly of course to the situation.  I knocked on the door.  The conversation stopped.  “Are you expecting anyone?”  I heard Will ask.  There was a moment of silence before someone opened the door.  I smiled softly.  “Hi, Mrs. Stronghold.  I'm sorry to interrupt.  Is it okay if I come in?”  I asked.  Will's mom nodded.  “Will, a friend of yours is here.”  She announced, letting me in before closing the door.

“Luna?  I didn't know you were coming, what's up?”  Will asked.  I took a moment to answer.  Gwen was here, and they had been eating.  “I'm sorry to interrupt you guys when you were eating.”  I started.  “Don't be.  What's the matter?”  Will’s mom assured me.  I took a breath.  “Well… my mom left me this note saying to call if anything happened.  I thought it would be easier to explain in person rather than over the phone.”  I started, taking the note out and showing it to Mrs. Stronghold.  She covered her mouth with her hand.  “Something happened to your mother?”  She asked.  I looked at Will for a moment before nodding.  “My mom went on a mission sometime last night and lost contact with her allies.  Principal Powers told me this morning.”  I told them.  Gwen didn't seem deterred, it was like she just didn't even care.  What if it had been her parents that were missing?
