The next thing I knew, I was being shaken awake. “Luna, what are you doing down here?” A voice asked. It took a moment to recognize the voice belonged to Will. I looked around a bit. Trying to wake myself up. “I wanted to draw out what I saw in my dream last night.” I answered, laying out some of the finished papers.I yawned, brushing my hair back, and finding a knot in the process. Will looked over the papers. “These are really good. How were you able to remember all of this?” He asked. I hummed quietly. “Honestly, I don't even know. I remember starting to draw the first one, and then zoning out. Then you’re waking me up.” I explained.
I noticed kids starting to filter down the stairs, sighing. We could talk to the Professor soon. Will chuckled a bit. “Come on, let's grab something to eat and then try figuring out where these mountains are.” He told me. I nodded, standing up and stretching for a moment.
We went to find wherever the kitchen was supposed to be, which was actually quite difficult because of how big the place actually was. I was eventually able to catch the scent of someone making pancakes, and followed that. It ended up being a guy with black hair, though his hair had silver parts that looked dyed in.
The guy turned around after a moment, dropping the plate he had. There was an awkward silence while the plate spun for a moment and then afterwards. “Sorry. We didn't mean to scare you. We just had some trouble finding the kitchen.” Will tried saying. The guy seemed… almost scared somehow. Within moments, his form darkened, seeming to become a shadow, and then disappeared.
I glanced at Will for a moment. “Oh, there you guys are.” A voice chimed in, causing both of us to turn around. It was Sam. “We wanted to get something to eat, but I guess we scared someone.” I replied, looking to where the plate was still on the floor. Sam hummed. “Oh, you’ve startled Kaylus.” She noted. It must have been the kid's name.
It was interesting how he had just been able to disappear the way he did. “What’s his… mutation?” Will asked. Sam smiled lightly. “Caylus can move through and manipulate shadows. He’s just kind of shy.” She replied. I sighed a bit.
I could relate to that actually. It was a cool ability at least. It seemed like it could have a couple practical uses. “Draven wanted to see if you had any ideas of where Tracker could start looking.” Sam started explaining.
I hummed lightly, thinking of the pictures from my dream last night. “Yeah, actually, I might have some sort of an idea.” I answered. We headed back to the library where the pages were still waiting. "Woah, when did you draw these, Luna?" Sam asked, picking up one of the pages. She'd grabbed the page with the tunnel, or what was supposed to be the tunnel. I wasn't sure how to explain at first.
"I think it would be better for Luna to explain to everyone at once." Will said for me. Sam seemed to accept it. Which I was thankful for. I wasn't sure how I would explain any of it to be honest. So, we went back to where the cave and tunnels had been. To which Will seemed amazed by.
Of course, upon seeing the pictures, Draven and the others wanted to know where they came from. I sighed a bit. "The weather freaking out last night was my fault." I started out saying. There was a chuckle from Draven. "That much was fairly clear." He replied. Wisp nodded a bit. "But, what caused it?" She asked.
I paused for a moment. "I used to have these dreams as a kid of mountains, tunnels, and even under the water sometimes. It hasn't happened in years. But it did last night. I saw, and felt, this place." I explained, motioning to the cave entrance. I found the bits of the forest I'd been able to remember. "I know it was in a forest… I remember sensing other people with me, but I couldn't see who else was there." I continued.
I moved to the page with the tunnel. "We went inside this tunnel, but I don't know where the lights were coming from… and I saw two of our friends." I said, pausing. Tracker sighed. "So they were already getting out?" He asked. I shook my head. "No… I think they were under someone's control… I couldn't make out their eyes, because I woke up." I explained.
Tracker looked over some of the sketches. He took them off the table, setting them on the floor and sitting in front of them. His eyes closed after a moment. The outlines of the mountains drifted off the page. "Woah." I said softly. Caz hummed. "It's just how he tries finding a place. He's like a human GPS. He used a picture and tried to match the landscape." He explained.
I nodded a bit. It still seemed pretty cool. Though now I was actually getting kind of hungry. "Is it something that takes a long time? I haven't eaten in a while and I really should." I asked quietly. Sam nodded a bit, looking at Wisp.
"Can you bring Luna back to the kitchen quickly?" She asked. Wisp smiled before nodding. "Of course." She replied. We headed away from where Tracker was doing his thing first. I wasn't too sure how Wisp's… portals worked. She held a hand up, a soft silvery light appearing before turning into the portal. It was cool looking actually.
I went through with Wisp, and then we were in the kitchen. It actually worked. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it probably wouldn't have been to be in the kitchen. I went through the cabinets to find some trail mix, though I grabbed some fruit bars for Will as well since he didn't eat either.
Wisp grabbed some… Nutella… it looked like it was before opening another portal back. Though right as I was about to head through, a sharp whistle went off. I yelped at the jolt of pain it caused. Items dropping to the ground barely registered over the whistle. The sound of muffled voices soon arrived.
It sounded like they were under water somehow. A wave of heat washed over me, though it didn't do anything to stop the whistle. But the whistle died down after a couple moments. I could still feel the heat though. The feeling of flames was… unsettling… but it wasn't accompanied by a burning sensation like normally. I could feel something shift.
I took a breath, looking around after a moment. It wasn't in the kitchen anymore. I seemed like I was in… a metal room of some sort. The room was bright, telling me that my eyes were lit up. I could still feel the sensation of heat though. That was when I realized my hands were lit in flames. Though the sensation was all over.
I watched the flames flicker for a couple of moments. The way the colors shifted and fused with each other was mystifying. It was beautiful. I tried moving the flames, though they didn't seem to listen very well. Controlling water was easier. I wasn't sure why it didn't want to listen to me.
I eventually made the flames go out, standing up to look around the room I was in now. There was a door, though it was half open. Which I found odd. Though, honestly, this whole place was very confusing. I found my way out of the door, looking around the halls. Voices were what drew my attention at first. I wasn't sure where this place was, but the scent was familiar somehow.
It reminded me of the scent I came across when we first came to the school. Did that mean this… place was under the school? Wasn't this where Nightcrawler brought Will and I when we first got here? It seemed like the structure was similar, but the area itself was different. I followed the voices for a bit. I still couldn't make them out for some reason. Like they were all still underwater.
They stopped after a while longer. Will was the first person to show up. I could see his mouth moving to say something to me. But his words were muffled and I couldn't make out what he was saying. Which was something Will seemed to recognize after some time. I had to assume somebody else told him I probably couldn't hear him.
