“So you ever mind your business?”  I replied instead of answering.  I said bye to everyone before getting off the bus.  I waved, watching the bus leave before meeting Laura in front of the house.  “Did something happen?  We agreed to not let anyone know you and dad were here until we were sure that it was safe.”  I asked.  Laura shook her head.  “Nothing bad happened.  I just wanted to wait outside for you.  You might want to change too.”  She told me.  Change?  “Change for what?”  I questioned.

Laura smiled.  “We're going somewhere for the next few weeks after you get home from school.  Mom and dad agreed we should at least start your training.  It'll be like what you learn in class, but more hands-on.”  She explained.  I nodded slowly.  I went to my room, putting a t-shirt and some leggings on.  We ended up going to some old trampoline park.  Nobody had bothered to move the trampolines for years from what it looked like.  “Is this legal?”  I asked as we went in.  Laura and dad chuckled.  “Sad knows the previous owner.  They said we were welcome to use the area as long as we like.”  Laura explained.  I nodded slightly.

When we got inside, I saw there was already a lot of equipment and different kinds of gear set out.  It kind of looked like someone had already been here.  I could see some of the dust had footprints and some of the equipment was moved.  “Are we sure nobody was here earlier?”  I asked.  Laura looked around a bit.  “Fairly.  This place has been closed for years, why?”  She asked.  Closed for years, huh?  I walked over to one of the medicine balls people used for balancing.  It was moved just enough that the dust left a round spot on the floor.  “Some of the equipment has been moved.  It's barely noticeable but it's still there.”  I relayed.  I checked a few more pieces of equipment.

Some even had handprints.  They weren't too big, telling me our visitor was a girl.  I couldn't tell her age or anything like that, but it looked like we just missed her.  “Female.  I'd assume she was here for an hour or two.  It looks like we just missed her though.”  I announced, looking back.  They were gone.  Completely gone.  I stood up from next to the trampoline I was at, looking around.  They hadn't gone outside, I would have heard the door open and close.  Something fell in front of me.  I jumped back, landing on the trampoline.  The supports for the trampoline snapped, sending me to the floor after only bouncing twice.  I got up as quickly as i could.  There was a set of weights on the floor.

They broke the floor up quite a bit too.  the weights said about 100 lbs.  I looked around before something moved above me.  Someone was someone standing in the lights.  With the lights on, I couldn't see how they looked.  But I could see they were there.  I whined softly before shaking my head.  “Hey!  Who are you?  What did you do to the other people who were here?”  I shouted up to them.  The person jumped down.  They had blonde hair and brown eyes.

The woman flipped back, picking the weights back up on her way.  Woah, she was strong.  When they came my way again, I caught them.  Or tried to.  I was launched back onto another trampoline.  It didn't break like the first one I landed on luckily.  I gasped, pushing the weight off my leg.  The woman seemed to freeze, glancing around a bit.  I got up, making sure my leg was set straight.  After a moment, I jumped onto another trampoline and back onto the regular flooring.  I growled softly, letting my senses increase without focusing on only one of them.  The woman threw a few more things at me.  I avoided most of them luckily.

There was no way I'd win this solely by playing defense.  I looked around again.  I should have known to bring my water bottle with me.  There wasn't any source of water that I could see either.  The structure of the building was stone… but I could risk hurting Laura and our parents if they were still in here.  I ducked the woman trying to jump me, opting to roll to the side instead.  I had to use what Mr. Boy told us in class.  Even if I wasn’t technically hero support anymore, that was all I had to go off during a fight.

In the case you and your hero were separated in battle: always keep your cool and try to keep whoever was there occupied until your hero or help arrives.  I grabbed one of the smaller sets of weights, throwing them at the woman instead of the other way around.  Try to avoid causing too much damage to the building if possible, and try to just subdue the person enough your hero could take care of them easily.

The woman dodged them easily.  I took a few breaths, listening in case anyone else was going to join.  I heard a pipe start leaking from somewhere, water dripping to the ground from somewhere in the ceiling.  Use anything as a weapon.  And if worse comes to worst, do anything possible to make sure no civilians were injured, and that you stay alive as long as possible.  The woman didn't know what family she just started messing with.  I located the water, raising one hand slowly.  It still took a while to get enough water.  I had to keep switching between gathering the water for an attack and using it to defend myself.  Luckily, I did take a beginner's martial arts class.

The woman didn't stop her attacks.  then, her form changed.  Like, literally changed.  She became a blue color completely and her hair changed to a deep red.  Her eyes even looked almost yellow, or orange, now too.  I launched the water at her, just barely missing her.  I swirled the water back around to catch her by surprise, letting my eyes light up to control the water better.  The woman didn't see it coming.  I managed to freeze her into place by encasing her legs in ice.  The woman gasped lightly.  the ice melted suddenly.

“sutā, sorede jūbundesu. sore wa tan'naru tesutodeshita. (That's enough, Star.  It was just a test.)”  My mom's voice told me.  I looked around.  The woman turned back into the form that made her look human.  I still didn't see my mother.  I didn't let my eyes dim back down.  Laura and our parents appeared suddenly.  “A test?”  I asked, taking a few breaths.  I let my eyes go back to normal.  They were just testing me?  “Where did you guys go?  I didn't hear you leave.”  I asked.  Someone in a chair rolled out.  The chair had large back wheels.

He didn't have any hair, but his eyes were a calm blue.  The chair didn't have anyone pushing it, and I couldn't see any kind of motor to move it.  What… was moving the chair then?  My dad chuckled lightly.  “That was too easy, you know.”  He said, glaring at the woman again.  The woman forced a hard laugh.  “You didn't tell me she was like her mother.”  She accused him.  Laura came over, seeing my confusion.

“These are two of mom's and dad's old friends, Luna.  Mystique, or Raven.  though you've kind of met her now.  Then there's Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X or Professor Xavier.”  She explained.  i nodded slowly.  Wait, I had heard the name 'Xavier' before.  “Xavier.  as in the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning?”  I asked, recalling what Will's mom had told me.  That seemed to surprise everyone.  “Where did you hear that name, Star?”  My mom asked me.  I met her eyes after a moment.  “I stayed with Will and his parents when… when you weren't here.  Will's mom… showed me your guys' yearbook and said you had gone to that school before going to sky high.”  I explained.

Laura laughed, easing a bit of the tension in the air.  I looked at the Professor and Raven for a moment.  Raven nodded slightly in my direction.  i nodded in return.  If my training was going to be like this, I’d have to find a way to be prepared a lot more than relying on a broken water pipe.  I could do more than control water too, so maybe I should work on doing multiple things at once.  As it turned out, that was what they had planned for me.  To do as many things at once.  It included gathering two different elements at once while evading attacks at the same time.
