I sat up again slowly. My head was still pounding. My mom took a step back, maybe to help me get up. I did eventually stand, but I needed help to stay upright. It felt disorientating with this headache. Maybe it came when I used my powers too much like I had. My mom helped me get down the stairs carefully. I could hear someone downstairs. They were standing. People usually sat down. As it turned out, there were three people in the living room. One was standing. The other two were sitting down, and they looked worried. I only recognized one person in the room.“Warren?” I realized, surprised. He turned around quickly. I saw his eyes. They were shimmering, worried. I looked at my mom. She was smiling softly. The other two stood up. One had almost blonde hair and the other had black hair. My mom let my shoulder go. I put my hand against the wall instead to help steady myself. She said something in another language, but I didn't understand it. They all left, leaving Warren and me in the living room. I heard them go out back. Warren's hands were shaking. He was nervous… mad… I couldn't figure it out. I kept my hand on the wall while making my way over to him.
I tripped over the rug. Warm hands caught me, pulling me back up. I met Warren's typically cold eyes. But they were softer now. “Are you okay?” He asked. I nodded slightly. “Y-yeah. Just disoriented.” I replied, feeling my cheeks heat up. This was almost too close, but it didn't feel uncomfortable at the same time. Warren loosened his grip slightly, taking a small step back but not letting go. “H-how did you find out where I live?” I asked. Warren sighed, but he didn't look mad. “Layla told me what happened. I asked if she knew where you lived so I could check on you.” He explained. I nodded slowly. Warren chuckled. I half tilted my head. “Are you laughing at me?” I accused him. He was smiling. It was… Cute.
“You know, I've never really seen you smile before. You should do it more often.” I told him. Something about what he said felt off. Why would he want to check on me? He could have easily just asked or listened in on the others talking. “Why… Why did you come? You always seemed too distant to care about anyone.” I asked. Warren frowned slightly. He seemed to be contemplating something. I brushed my hair back slightly. Warren seemed to freeze. I uncovered my white eye by accident. I covered it again quickly, pulling away again and turning away. “You shouldn't have seen that.” I said softly.
Warren grabbed my arm again lightly. “Why were you hiding that?” He asked. I sighed. Wasn't it obvious enough? “Because, I used to get bullied because of my hair and how my eyes looked. I didn't want that to keep happening. I started wearing a hat and covering my eyes, one of them at least.” I told him. Warren made me face him. His eyes were different, but the same still. They held something different. “You shouldn't have to.” He said, sounding somewhat mad. His hands got hot, really hot.
I gasped, making him pull away. My arm was burned, but it faded slowly. “Sorry, sorry.” Warren muttered. I watched the burn disappear before looking at Warren again. He was keeping his hands together. “Warren…” I started. He stepped away. “I can't control it sometimes. I don't want to hurt you even more.” He replied. I sighed, taking a step closer and grabbing his hand lightly. It was still warm, but not as hot.
Even when it started burning, I didn't let go. Warren looked both confused and worried. “What are you doing?!” He questioned, pulling his hand away. I sighed, shaking my head. The burns disappeared after a few moments. I turned to go back upstairs. “You should… You should go home Warren. I wouldn't want you to get in trouble at home.” I told him. I hardly got to the stairs when Warren grabbed my hand again. He turned me around to face him quickly.
