“Thank you.”  I told her softly.  She smiled, brushing my bangs back.  She could see my white eye now.  What would she think about it?  “You know, you shouldn't hide your eyes anymore.  They're beautiful, no matter what color they are.”  Laura assured me.  I looked down slightly.  “I didn't want anyone to bother me about them.”  I replied lightly.  Laura shook her head.  “Well, don't.  Just be yourself.  It doesn't matter what other people think of you.  All that matters is what you think of yourself.”  She clarified.  I smiled.  Laura opened her arms slightly.  I hugged her, feeling her hug back.  After a moment, I knew we both heard someone in the doorway.  I pulled away and looked at who it was.

It was mom.  She was smiling, her eyes shimmering.  “Watashi wa itsumo sono shunkan o mitai to omotte imashita. Motto hayaku nareba īnoni to omoimasu. (I always hoped I would see that moment.  I just wish it was a lot sooner.)”  She said.  I smiled softly.  My mom said something in the other language she had spoken.  Laura replied in the same language.  Now I know how Layla felt when she heard me and my mom talking from outside the window.  “What language is that?”  I asked.  Laura shook her head lightly.  “It's Arabic.  Dad and I were staying in Arabia until now.”  She explained.  I looked at my mom again.

“Any other surprises?”  I asked.  She just laughed, sitting on the bed.  “I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, Star.  I wanted you to have a chance at a normal childhood.”  She explained.  I nodded.  Of course she would have wanted me to feel normal.  But things would never be normal.  “I would have appreciated a heads up at least, mom.”  I replied.  My mom smiled, laughing slightly.  “I'll remember that next time.”  She promised.  I rolled my eyes.  “Next time?”  I answered, acting shocked.  Laura laughed slightly, prompting my own laugh to bubble up.  Laura tried explaining what her and dad had been doing.  It felt so weird to be able to call someone that after not being able to for so long.  But I had to get used to it if they were staying here now.

I quickly figured out that my dad wasn't the best when it came to showing any kind of emotions.  He didn't speak too much at first, but opened up very slightly after a few days.  I still haven't been able to go back to Sky high.  But my mom said I should be able to go back tomorrow, as long as I felt good enough to.  Layla had come by a few times already.  She was actually supposed to come by in a few minutes, so I left my window unlocked.  Laura came into my room.  She was wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.  “Where are you going?”  I asked.  Laura shrugged.  “Nowhere.  I just wanted to wear these.”  She replied.

We talked for a while, until I heard the window open.  “Hey Luna, how's it-”  Layla started, pausing.  Shoot.  She could see Laura.  “Layla!”  I exclaimed, standing up quickly to help her get in.  Laura stayed sitting.  “Who are you?”  She asked.  Layla looked at me.  We didn't look alike at all, so it wasn't too obvious we were related.  I sighed.  Nobody was supposed to find out yet.  I looked at Laura, who only nodded.  Layla still seemed confused.  “Layla… Remember how you figured out there was something else going on but I didn't want to tell anyone yet?”  I started.  Layla took a moment, but she nodded.

“Well… This is Laura.”  I continued, pausing for a moment.  “My older sister.”  I finished.  Layla was silent for a moment.  “Are you serious?”  She asked eventually.  Laura and I nodded.  “Our dad and I only just got here.  There were people after me and him and we didn't want to put mom and Luna at risk… or at least that's what our parents decided.  We had no idea about the other.”  She started explaining.  I took a breath.  “Until my mom told me and let me call.  Laura heard the voicemail I left and I guess that was it.”  I added lightly.

Layla spent a few minutes asking Laura questions.  I interrupted at one point.  “But you can't tell anyone.  If too many people find out, Laura and my dad would have to leave to make sure the people looking for them won't find them.”  I explained quickly.  Layla nodded.  “I won't tell anyone you don't want me to.  I just came over to ask if you knew when you were coming back.  Everyone's been asking about you… Especially Warren.”  She said, adding the last past softly.
