Chapter 41: Doomsday

The sun's getting real low and everyone is already in their dormitories. Sabi kasi sa rules ng exam ay kailangan na may kani-kaniyang dorm ang mga estudyante para dito na mismo makapaghanda at hindi na kailangan pang umuwi. The doors of Harman is tightly closed so no one can get in or out when the exam starts. Hindi kami puwedeng tumakas. Magtatago lang dapat hangga't may mapagtataguan.

Kahit pa soundproof ang dorm, pakiramdam ko ay naririnig kong nagkakasa ng mga baril ang mga nasa kabilang kuwarto kaya't ako ay naghanda na rin ng ibinigay sa akin na baril ni ma'am Charlotte. She said it was a gift as an official welcome from the Azuelas. Hindi ko alam kung matutuwa ako o hindi kasi baril ang hinding-hindi ko inaasahang ireregalo sa akin ng pamilya ni Seth. But for now, this is all I could use for my exam so I better take care of this one.

I prepared some small knives in case na bigla akong mawalan ng bala o bigla kong mabitawan ang baril. Hindi ako masyadong nahasa sa pagbaril dahil nagpokus ako sa physical combat. Ayaw kong pumatay nang marami kaya't hindi iyon ang hiniling kong matutunan.

I am feeling a lot of emotions right now and they are all battling to win and outburst. My anger towards El and Lucian, my nervousness as I am not sure if I am going to make it, and fear that I might not see my family again if I die. Habang hawak ko ang baril ay nanginginig ang mga kamay ko at habang dumidilim ang kalangitan sa bintana ay lalong nagpapatindi ng antisipasyon ko.

According to the rules of the examination, everything will end when the sun rises and the ones who manage to live will be the remaining students of Harman. We are placed in different rooms in each of our dormitory and according to Seth's plan, we will be meeting in the class to team up (we can't share a dormitory according to the rules so no one is with me now).

Ilang minuto pa ang hinintay ko bago umalingawngaw ang isang malakas na busina sa loob ng kuwarto kasabay ang anunsyo na pormal na ngang sisimulan ang exam.

Inihanda ko na ang sarili ko at tumayo mula sa kama bago tinungo ang pintuan at tiningnan ang peephole kung may nangahas agad na lumabas. I waited for a second until someone indeed walked pass through but before he could even leave the spot of my dorm, agad na lamang na may bumaril sa kaniya.

Screw it! If I can't go through the door then might as well try the window. But my dorm is in the third floor and I can't risk using the bedsheets because I am not even sure if it can hold me and I have never done sliding down from a high place using a tie either.

I tried calculating in which way do I have the higher risk to die and to my own estimation, its through the door. The window gives me a little chance but its hard to risk. I have to ready myself first.

After swallowing all my fears, I turned around to go through the window so I could leave but before I could even step away, a motorcycle bumped to my door and broke it.

Agad na tumambad sa akin si Seth na nakasuot ng helmet habang nakaangkas sa motor niya, "Hop in, sweetie." He commanded as he gives me an extra helmet before I immediately put it on and then I hopped on his bike without any second thoughts.

Nang makasakay ako ay agad niyang pinaandar ang motor nagmamadaling dumiretso sa elevator habang sinusubukan kaming paulanan ng bala ng mga naka-stay in sa dormitory. Nang sumara ang elevator ay doon lang ako nakahinga nang maluwag habang si Seth naman ay lumingon sa akin.

"Are you wearing any bulletproof vest?" Nag-aalalang tanong niya sa akin na agad ko namang sinagot nang mabilis na tango, "that's my girl. We'll be going to the classroom before we finally go to our safe place."

"Safe place? You have a safe place?" He never mentioned anything about a safe place so I was not sure if it is real.

"Yes. The VIP room. After we are all gathered in the classroom, we will immediately go there and wait until sunrise."
