Chapter 9: Hard and Soft

ARANYA

"So uhm, close kayo ni Seth?"

Nagpaalam muna si Seth na lalabas dahil sasagutin niya ang cellphone niyang tumutunog. Naiwan kami ni Cole na ngayon ay busy-ng busy sa kakaasikaso ng pagkain ko dahil utos iyon sa kanya ng presidente.

Agad na natigilan at napalingon ito sa akin at manghang-mangha na nagtanong, "Seth? You call him Seth?"

Kakaiba ang ngiti nito na para bang may kung anong magandang balita akong nasabi.

"Well, he said I can call him Seth."

"The only person I know who calls him that is his mother." He surprisingly said before turning back to the table where he prepares my meal.

Biglang may kung anong kakaibang tuwa ang namuo sa akin. I can't help but to smile after hearing what Cole said.

"When I called him Seth once, he punched me right in the nose and told me its only his mother who's allowed to call him that." Kuwento nito habang inaasikaso pa rin ang pagkain sa lamesa.

Hindi ko maiwasan ang mabigla sa sinabi nito. He's so mean! He can just simply say that he doesn't want to be called Seth by other person. Hindi niya naman kailangan suntukin si Cole.

"How rude of him!" I complained while gesturing my hand heavily falling down to my leg out of disappointment.

"Yeah. He's always rude but I think he already got an exception."

"Really?"

"Yeah. You." He as he turn to me while holding a bowl of warm noodle soup and a bottle of water. "You're his exception."

He carefully placed the food and drink on the tray table infront of me as he tell answer my questions.
Me? An exception of his rudeness? How come?

"Why do you think so?"

"Have he ever done anything rude to you?" He immediately asked before sitting at the table beside the clinic bed where sitting.

I tried to recall the time starting when we first had a formal conversation until now.

"Uhm, nope. He's quite nice to me."

"Quite? Ya' sure about that? Because if his kindness to you is still quite then I haven't seen full kindness in my whole life!" He even shake his head out of disbelief in my answer.

Well, I guess his right. Parang hindi naman ata magandang term ang quite sa sobrang kabutihang pinapakita niya sa akin.

I don't even know if its still kindness or, something else.

"He have never been like this to anyone. You're even the first woman he talked to you know? He hates ladies except his mother. Now I think I should include you."

I don't know what to feel right now. Masyado ata akong pinagmumukhang espesyal ni Cole. Its like he's already telling me that Seth likes me a lot.

Well that's what he also said right? That he likes me? Pero the like he was talking about is just a usual friendly like. Hindi naman iyong like na may halong romantic feeling.

"Do I have to celebrate now?"

"No. It should be me and his family who should celebrate. This is the first time I saw him with a lady other than his mother! Its like I just witnessed a miracle and I think you're heaven sent!" He sounds really surprised as he keep on telling me how special am I.

"Don't patronize me Cole."

I want to sound humble but deep inside, I feel really happy. Parang masyado akong nagkaroon ng halaga kahit pa kay Seth lang. I sounded like a very important person not just to my family but also to another person.
It feels so overwhelming.
