Chapter 74: The Mantle

Ryan Kiho's POV

My body sprung forth through the sky, the bone chilling air wrapped around me like a frosty blanket. Although my powers seemed to radiate a thin layer of protection that kept me warm.

I kept my gaze ahead of me, the snow was thick and obscured my vision. Unlike Dylan, I didn't have any extreme reflexes or senses that helped with navigation.

Speaking of Dylan, he's been a no show for almost a week. I hope he's alright, personally I don't blame him for what happened.

Kind of saw it coming and everyone makes mistakes, Dr Nagato says he's done but I don't he believes it himself.

"Ryan, you're almost there" The storm had been determined to happen for days now but this sudden increase in severity was a bunch of red flags for everyone at Haven Labs.

My eyes focused ahead, the clouds were dense and thick. Almost black as they flashed with lightning. My body stopped moving, suspended in the air.

"Kana, I don't think I can get any closer but one thing is certain. This isn't a normal storm" I called out into my comms. It was miracle they were still operational.

"You should come back, we need to regroup" Hopefully, Dylan would be there. I don't think I can do this Vigilante thing without him.

"Alright" I shot off once more, leaving a trail of bluish energy.

Upon walking into the cortex, everyone was already working on the issue at hand. Keeping busy, distracting themselves from what happened with Dylan.

"What do we have so far?" I asked, praying this was just a really bad storm. Evan vegan typing on his keyboard, pulling up scan of the city.

"From your aerial recon, we have determined the Eye of the Storm isn't just growing with every minute but growing more dense with ionic energy. I mean, this thing can probably give Dylan's lightning a run for its money"

As soon as Evan mentioned the resident Speedster, he caved as did everyone but Dr Nagato who was observing data and writhing out equations.

"Have we been able to get a reading on what's causing such a sudden increase?" I pondered. "Maybe, try a Vibe, Dr Nagato" He shook his head, "I've tried but something is interfering with the frequency. I'm guessing the fact that Dark Matter is infused with the electrical field the cloud has created is what's causing the issue"

Evan raised his brow, spinning on his swivel chair, "For real? That's your hypothesis?" He wasn't fully sold as Dr Nagato's powers are as mysterious as the Speedforce.

They activate at random with no indication on when they'll work their magic.

I wonder how Dylan was doing with this storm going on, hope he's alright.

Dylan Xander's POV

The storm pelted chunks of snow and ice through the air, the only reason I made it to the Precinct was because of my speed.

Stepping through the door and out of the blizzard, police officers alike were in a state of chaos. Moving in and out of the building in heavy snow gear.

This storm had been affecting everything from the power grid to the signal towers, there have been some instances of lightning striking the streets.

Rolling my shoulders, I let the warmth of the interior of the building seep into my clothes.

I weaved between the crowds of people, the room felt like a swamp, humid and uncomfortable as I shifted between the crowds of officers and civilians.
