Chapter Eight

Connor wakes up the next morning and looks at Panthera. She is still looking at the wall and doesn't realise that he's awake. After a second Panthera hears his breathing change and looks at him. “Did you sleep at all last night?” He asks, sitting up. Panthera shakes her head and Connors eyes go wide. “Why not?” Panthera looks at the wall then back at him. He looks at the wall then back at her and shrugs his shoulders. She sighs and looks at Katy. Connor gently picks her up and puts her on the blanket and covers her up. Panthera shifts into a human and explains what happened last night and what she saw. “So you stayed up all night to make sure we were safe?” Panthera nods and Katy starts crying. Panthera makes a bottle of apple juice and tries to feed her but she doesn't want it. She shifts into a panther and lays down, curling around Katy. Katy stops crying and cuddles into her fur. “What do you think it was?” Connor asks. Panthera shakes her head and he sighs. “Next time, wake me up.” Panthera nods and he starts to cook one of the rabbits. After he finishes he cuts it in half and tosses half of it to Panthera, and she eats it whole. “Do you want more?” Panthera shakes her head and Connor starts eating. Katy starts crying and Panthera shifts and gives her a bottle. “We need to leave. Try to find somewhere else to stay.” Panthera says. Connor nods and stands up. Panthera wraps up Katy and hands her to Connor before climbing out of the cave. “Dragon or panther?” Panthera asks once Connor climbs out. “Panther.” Panthera nods and shifts before bending down. Connor climbs on, still holding Katy and Panthera starts running. She runs for a few hours before stopping at a stream. She takes a sip and Connor gets in the water. Panthera watches him wash his hair and turns around when he takes his clothes off to wash everything else. After a few minutes Connor gets dressed and walks over to Panthera. “Can you dry me?” Connor asks. Panthera laughs in her head and shifts into a dragon. She spits flames and he slowly turns, drying himself. Panthera stops once he's dry and starts cleaning herself in panther form. “Come on, go wash in the water. I won't look, I promise.” He says, turning around. Panthera shifts and gets undressed before climbing into the water. She washes her hair and body watching Connor to make sure. Once she's done she climbs out and gets dressed and turns into a dragon and dries her scales. After she’s done she shifts into a human and gives Katy a bath. Katy giggles the whole time, splashing Panthera. Once she's done, she dries Katy and shifts into a panther and Connor climbs on holding Katy. She keeps running until she's a mile away from Connors home.
