Panthera shifts into a cat and jumps into bed with Connor. Connor lifts up his arm tiredly and Panthera smiles, crawling into his hold. He wraps his arms around her and falls asleep. She watches the stars fly across the sky and the moon get high. The clock dings, signalling midnight and Panthera sighs. She twitches and moves until her head is against Connor’s chest. She falls asleep to the sound of his heartbeat. Candance walks in and smiles before flicking the light switch, and shutting the door. Panthera smiles, knowing she's gonna be able to protect Candance and Connor. She wakes up the next morning to sunlight filtering to the window and Connor snoring on the other side of the bed. Panthera stands up and stretches before hopping off the bed and walking to the door. She pushes it open and walks down the hall and into the kitchen. Candance tosses Panthera a piece of bacon and she eats it happily, meowing. Candance smiles and Panthera pushes open the front door, shifting to a wolf and running. She hunts a rabbit and eats it raw before finding a deer and bringing it down. She drags it home and Candance walks out. “Panthera, no!” she yells, pointing her finger at Panthera. Panthera drops the carcass and drops her head, her tail between her legs. “No Panthera! Don't do that!” Candance says. Panthera lets out a sad bark and Connor walks out. “Mom, what's going on?” Connor says. Candance and Panthera look at him and Panthera sits on her haunches. “Why are you getting onto her?” Connor asks. “She killed that deer for no reason!” Candance says. “She probably was getting it for you so we had meat!” Connor says. Candance’s face falls and she turns to Panthera. “No more hunting unless we need it.” Candance says sternly. Panthera nods and jumps up, her tail wagging. Connor chuckles and helps Candance get it inside. Panthera runs to the lake by the house and jumps in, swimming. Connor runs over and jumps in. Panthera paddles over and plays with him for a while. “Dinner!” Candance yells from the house. Panthera and Connor swim onto land. Panthera shakes her fur and Connor laughs. Panthera shifts into a dragon and dries herself and Connor before they run to the house, Panthera in her human form. They run inside and sit at the table eating. Katy starts crying and Panthera takes her, feeding her a bottle. Connor and Candance smile at each other. Katy finishes the bottle and Panthera burps her before putting her on the ground and shifting into a cat. Katy and Panthera play together before Katy falls asleep. Panthera shifts and eats before shifting back and laying with Katy. Connor scratches Panthera between the ears before going to his room. Panthera stays with Katy until Candance picks her up. “Goodnight Panthera.” Candance says, walking off. Panthera stands up and stretches before jumping on the couch. She yawns and curls up on a pillow, watching the stars out the window. She hears a noise from behind her and jumps up. Connor stops and chuckles. “It's just me, calm down Panthera.” Panthera angrily meows at him and he laughs. He walks over and picks her up. Panthera growls at him as he walks to his room. He gets in and Panthera twists and jumps out of his arms. She lands silently on her feet and runs to the window. She jumps on the window sill and Connor walks over. He opens the window and Panthera sits on the window sill as the warm summer air blows. Her black cat tail swishes and she smiles. Connor lays in bed and watches Panthera before falling asleep. As soon as Panthera hears his soft snores, she goes on high alert. She watches the trees, the yard and the lake. Everything looks normal but Panthera doesn't trust it. After a while, Katy cries in the other room. Panthera doesn't move, assuming Candance will get her. When the crying doesn't stop, Panthera jumps down and runs out the door. She sprints down the hall and pushes open the door with her head. She jumps on the bed before realizing that Candance isn't there. She turns to Katy and shifts. She grabs Katy and rocks her back and forth. She keeps crying so Panthera goes downstairs and makes a bottle. She feeds Katy and when Katy falls asleep, she puts her back in bed. She covers her up before shifting into a wolf. She sniffs the bed and gets Candance’s scent before running downstairs. Shifting, she writes a note to Connor, telling him that she's going to be looking for Candance. She runs out the door and shifts. She sniffs the ground and finds her scent. She follows it till the sunrises and a rooster crows in the distance. Finally, the scent becomes stronger. She runs a little faster, her tongue hanging out happily, glad that she found her. She stops as she sees a town. She gets a bad feeling and shifts into a dog. She follows the scent and gets to an abandoned store. She pushed the door open and Candance was standing there. Panthera barks happily and Candance turns around, her eyes red. Panthera instantly changes her position to an attack one. Candance walks closer. “Hello Panthera, what are you doing here?” She asks, kindly. Suddenly Panthera gets a strong scent of blood. She looks around before seeing a dead man's body, white and lifeless, drained of blood. “I'm sorry you had to find out this way.” Candance says, dropping to her knees. “I'm so sorry.” Candance repeats a few times. Panthera relaxes but is still vigilant. “I became a vampire a month ago, while we were gone for the funeral.” Candance says, not looking up. “I've been trying to find someone to take it away but no one will.” Candance says. “Please dont tell Connor.” She says, finally looking up. Panthera walks forward and gently licks Candance’s face and Candance smiles. “Thank you.” Candance hugs Panthera. After a few minutes, Candance’s eyes go back to normal and Panthera shifts into a panther. Candance climbs on and Panthera runs home. Connor runs outside as Panthera shifts. He pulls them both into a hug. “Where did you guys go?” Connor asks, pulling back. “Candance had to go to the doctor and had to ask me to come and get her.” Panthera lies. Candance nods and Connor sighs. “Ok, come on. I got breakfast made.” Connor says walking inside. Candance mutters a thank you before they walk inside. They eat in silence before Candance tells Connor to go get his backpack and get ready for school and he runs upstairs. Panthera shifts into a cat and jumps on the windowsill, stretching in the sun. Connor runs back downstairs and Panthera jumps up. Connor laughs and Panthera runs outside, shifting. Connor climbs onto her strong panther back and they take off. They get to the school and Panthera shifts. “Can I come into the school?” she asks. “Why?” Connor asks, confused. “I’ve never been. Besides having to watch you.” she says, looking down. “Sure.” Connor says, laughing. Panthera shifts into a cat and Connor gently puts her in his backpack. He walks into school and Panthera watches out of the zipper hole. They go through school together and at lunch, Connor feeds Panthera pieces of chicken nuggets. They get out of school early and Panthera shifts in the courtyard. Connor climbs onto her back and runs off. One of the students saw it and decided to ask Connor about it the next day.
