Chapter Ten

Panthera wakes up with a second body against her. She looks over and sees Connor. She shifts into a human and gently wakes Connor up. “What are you doing here?” She asks once he's awake. “I can't go home without you.” he says, sitting up. “You have to! I want you to have a normal life.” Panthera says, sitting down next to him. “Like I told mom, you are my normal.” he says. Panthera blushes and looks away. “It's true, you make me feel normal and happy.” He says. Panthera doesn't say anything. “Please talk to me.” he says, taking one of her hands in his. She looks at him and says “What am I supposed to do with you?” He shrugs and she laughs. Katy wakes up and Panthera scoots over to her. She tries to feed her but she doesn't want it. She tries to shift into a panther and cuddles with Panthera but it doesn't work. She shifts into a human and looks between Connor and Katy. Connor shrugs his shoulders. Panthera looks at Katy and Katy is reaching to the sky. She gets an idea and hands Katy to Connor. Connor is confused at first but Katy instantly calms down and stops crying. Connor smiles and rocks her back and forth, humming to her. She eventually falls asleep and Connor keeps rocking her. “Why were you planning to leave me with my mom and dad?” Connor asks, looking up at Panthera. “Because I love you and I wanted to let you have a normal life and fall in love with a beautiful woman and have kids, not be stuck with me.” Panthera says. “But I love you, I want to have that life with you.” Connor says. Panthera shakes her head and takes a deep breath. Panthera takes Katy from Connor and stands up. Connor stands up too. Panthera hands Connor Katy and shifts into a panther. Connor climbs onto Panthera’s back and Panthera runs off towards Connor's house. Connor is too busy looking at Katy to realize but once Panthera stops in front of his house, Connor finally looks up. Candance and Abaddon run out the front door. Connor climbs down off of Panthera and she shifts into a human. She takes Katy from Connor while he gets smothered in hugs and kisses and “I miss you’s” and “where have you been’s”. Panthera stands off to the side. After a second she goes to walk off and Connor turns and sees her. “No!” he yells. Panthera freezes and slowly faces to turn him. “You're not leaving me again.” Connor says. He walks over to her and pulls her into a hug and whispers to her. “I won't be able to live without you.” He pulls back and she nods. He smiles and leads her over to Candance and Abaddon. “Either she and Katy can stay or I won't.” he says firmly. His mom and dad look at each other then back at them. Candance nods and Connor hugs Panthera, then his mom. “Thank you!” he says. He grabs Katy and pulls her into the house. He brings her to his bedroom. He plops down on the bed and stretches. Panthera stands in the doorway. He sits up and pats the bed next to him. She walks over to the bed and gently lays Katy down before sitting next to Connor. Connor watches Panthera as she feels the soft sheets. She looks up at him and he looks away. “Why are you fighting your mom and dad over me?” she asks. He looks at her and sighs before saying “Because, they shouldn't make me choose between the girl I love and them.” she stands up off the bed and moves away. “I'm going to go sleep in my room.” she says before picking up Katy and walking off. She gets to her room and locks the door before starting to pack. She packs up a bag for Katy and her. She gets food, new blankets, change of clothes for both of them and more.

Dear Candance and Abaddon,

Take care of Connor for me. Make sure he doesn't follow me. I'm heading to the Cherokee mountains to find a friend I made in the orphanage. His name is Leon and he's going to take care of me and Katy. I love you all and I hope that Connor can get on with his life and forget me, find a woman he loves. Please don't let him mourn, make sure he's happy.

Dear Connor,

I'm leaving to go find an old friend from the adoption center. He's going to take care of me and Katy. I love you but I want you to have a normal life. Not me normal but actually normal, with a normal woman and amazing kids. Don't mourn, forget me and go live your life.

She unlocks the door and jumps out the window. She changes into a panther and puts the backpack in her mouth and runs. She runs all night and by the time Connor wakes up, she is already halfway there.
