I walk through the corridors, my destination as always being the office of Nikolai. He called me and this time I answered, not missing it like the night a few days ago when Irina and I were at the beach. Luckily he didn't hammer on it and I didn't have to lie to him because he was busy with the delivery.I had to take an extra shift at Coleman & Gold today because Mr. Smith needed me for a project he has to finish by next week. Normally I have a day off on Fridays and that's why I'm usually at Nikolai's, but today I had to work half a shift as an exception.
I wasn't surprised when Nikolai's name flashed on my screen just as I walked out of the company building. Of course, a man who is busy day in and day out doesn't want to waste any more time and that's why I had to race a bit on the way to Irina's house.
Anyway, I take a tired breath as I stand in front of the wooden door, knocking my knuckles against the hard surface. I don't know when I last got a really good night's sleep and I feel like I could fall into a deep hibernation at any moment and not even the strongest force could wake me up from it.
As I step into the room after being allowed to enter, I am greeted by a nod from Nikolai, and behind him is Taehyung standing there looking me up and down. His white shirt is ruined with red color and everyone but me probably knows what kind of business he had to do for Nikolai. But I'm not eager to find out if I'm being honest.
There is a toothpick sticking out of his mouth and he is casually chewing on it. I give him a 'what?' look and he laughs under his breath before looking away again. I just can't stand this guy and I can see myself going crazy because of him eventually. Why doesn't he even change his clothes stained with his sins?
"You needed me for something, sir?" I clear my throat as I connect my hands in front of my body as I stop right in front of his desk.
"Yes, I have a task for both of you," he says before getting up from his swivel chair and walking over to the large table in the middle of his office. "James is going to join you guys and you need to go to the mall."
I raise my eyebrow in curiosity, thinking what we could possibly be doing in the mall. To be honest, my heart keeps pounding whenever Nikolai announces that he has a task for me.
I can never gauge what kind it is and if there is anything I need to do that I don't necessarily want to or can do. He could ask me anything and I simply wouldn't know how to escape his command. Fortunately, something like that hasn't happened yet and I hope I never have to face a situation like that.
"There is something in the mall that I need you to bring here," he explains and I inwardly let out a sigh in relief because at least it's a non-illegal thing to do. "I don't care how you do it, but I want it in my hands in an hour at the latest."
Taehyung and I nod simultaneously, understanding the task. Even though I can't stand Taehyung I'm glad Nikolai trusts me enough to send me off with his best men.
"What exactly is it that you want us to bring in?" Taehyung asks as Nikolai unrolls a large sheet on the table that looks like a blueprint or sketch of a building.
Nikolai furrows his eyebrows and shakes his head. "I don't know either. I was told there was something there for me."
"Who told you this?" I ask, genuinely curious about it.
I mean, how does Nikolai know it's not a trap? Is he sending us there as prey in case we were lured by the hunter, thus keeping himself safe?
