I woke up the next morning with a slight headache and a huge craving for food. Not hospital food, real food, like the food my mom makes. But I was in here for another 24 hours and that's only if I get cleared to leave tomorrow morning. If not, it's 48 hours, then 72, then 96, and then I go crazy. But I just have to think the best of the situation. I buzzed Cleo and as soon as she answered I wined that I was hungry and demanded that she bring me breakfast. I had the idea that if I pissed her off enough she might give me an early release.
Cleo came upstairs within 20 minutes of my phone call with a Tim hortons bag and cup. I gasped and she smirked. "I thought you might like a treat today. But you have to promise no more demanding phone calls," she said placing the food on my tray.
I looked up at her, my eyes probably glossy from the tears that threatened to spill out. She was so nice! "Thank you so much Cleo," I sobbed. What can I say? 2 whole days of solitary confinement can drive a persons emotions crazy.
"Are you crying?"
"No, I got something in my eye. Of course I'm freakin' crying!" Stupid nurses and their questions that have ridiculously obvious answers.
"Alright, alright. I'm sorry. I'll leave you to eat."
She smiled once more before leaving me with my food. It was already about noonish so I decided that now would be a good time to tell Sarah that she can send my visitor to me after school. She quickly replied with a quick, 'kk awesome!'. Someone was happy today. I debated on asking her why was up, but then figured that I would ask her about it if and when she came to visit today. Kate my food in silence when my phone started blaring music. I recognized this ringtone to be the one of unknown numbers, so I reached over and answered it. "Hello?"
"Hi Noah, it's coach Stateson," came a male voice.
"Oh hi coach."
"How are you? I got the news yesterday about your surgery. Did it go okay?"
"Yeah, Dr. Matheson said it went as well as it could have. I won't be able to play at all this season though."
"That's ok, I still put you on the team due to the leadership and determination I saw in your play on Monday. To be honest, I was thoroughly impressed by you. As soon as you're better, I want you to also tryout for the girls team in the spring that way I can coach you to perfection and even have some college and university scouts come out to check you out."
Is he serious? "That's sounds amazing coach, thank you so much!" I exclaimed.
"Any time. Now, will you be planning to be on the bench at games and practices for the season?" he asked.
"Of course."
"Ok, that just means I have to put your name down as an assistant coach on the roster for the season. Well that's all I wanted to say. Enjoy the rest of your time in the hospital."
I chuckled. "I'll try."
"Goodbye Noah."
"Bye."
I can't believe that honestly just happened. I am going to have to at least keep my grades up and make sure that I don't totally lose my fitness level while I'm recovering. I guess that's another thing I'll have to ask Cleo next time she comes in as well as when I get to pick my colour for my cast.
As expected, the next couple hours went by extremely slowly. I got a couple text messages from Sarah, Mason, and Cameron all asking me how I was doing and if they could visit later, after Logan of course. I obviously said yes, also asking if they could help me convince Cleo to release me early so I could get back to school and be there for the first official practice. They all said they would help me and all I could think was how grateful I was to have such amazing friends. Around 3pm, Logan still hasn't shown up even though school had been out for half an hour already. I told myself over and over not to think anything of it, that maybe he had something to do at home first. A couple minutes later, Cleo came in with 6 different colours that u could choose from for my hard cast. Of course I chose the bright green and she said she woul be rights back to put it on. She did say thought that until it was done, I was allowed no visitors, I accepted that and told her to hurry up so she could make my arm look pretty.
