I walked up to the door first so I could unlock it and let everyone in. I didn't see anyone in the living room a lot the kitchen, so I assumed that mom was upstairs painting. She was working on starting an at home artistry business. She was extremely talented and I was proud of her for going after what she wanted, but it also meant that she would be away a lot publicizing her art. I didn't mind though. I threw my house key on the island, my purse on the hangar by the door and my bag onto the couch. Mom didn't care whether or not I wore my shoes around the house at this time of year because there was no mud or snow outside, so I kept my boots on to make myself feel better about myself around all these tall people.
"Noah, honey," mom called from upstairs. "Is that you?"
"Yeah mom, downstairs," I answered.
I watched her descend the stairs wearing her painting apron and her hair in a bun. "Hi sweetheart, can you untie me?"
"Yeah." She turned around so I could untie the back of her apron. She then walked into the kitchen to wash her hands.
As she turned around, Sarah walked into the house. "Why hello Sarah, I haven't seen you since Monday."
"Hi mama Lisa," Sarah said walking over to give her a hug. "How are you?"
"I'm great. I just finished a painting upstairs would you girls like to see it?"
"Actually I was going to ask you if I could go to a house party with Sarah and a couple of our friends," I said hopefully.
"Do I know these friends?"
"I don't think so, but they're here if you want to meet them." As I said this, I assumed that Hunter and Logan walked in because moms eyes went wide. She looked at me and smiled. She also winked as if to say we'd picked keepers.
"Hello Ms. Carson," Hunter said sounding very formal. "I'm Hunter and this is Logan."
"Hello boys, and please call me Lisa."
"So my family is having a small party and Hunter and I are allowed to bring someone along," Logan said.
"So you've invited my daughter and my daughter from another father, have you?" She had her arms around our shoulders and was looking him over menacingly.
"We would love it if they came," Hunter replied.
"Well," mom started. Sarah looked up at her pleadingly and I just stood there internally hoping she let us go with them. "It gets rid of them for me so knock yourselves out. Will they be spending the night?"
"If they're allowed."
"Ok. And will they be going to school tomorrow?"
"Mama Lisa, tomorrow's Friday please don't make us do it," Sarah said dramatically.
Mom rolled her eyes. "Do your parents know that you plan on going to this party and skipping school tomorrow?"
"As long as Noah is with me, my mom wouldn't care if we were in jail for 10 years and you know that." I heard Logan and Hunter snicker at this. "She seems to have this crazy idea that Noah is responsible or something."
I gaped and hit her shoulder. Everyone laughed. "Well if that's the case, you girls can stay over. But Noah if your grades drop because of this week off school, so help me I will ground you for a month."
"Yes mother dear," I said sweetly snuggling into her side.
"Don't call me that you know it makes me feel old."
I laughed and dragged Sarah upstairs to get ready. I told the boys they could use the basement bathroom to get ready. There were 2 bathrooms upstairs and 2 more downstairs so each if us had our own ways of getting ready. Sarah and I both jumped into the shower at the same time and were surprisingly out of the shower within minutes of each other, of course me being the longer one. When I got out, Sarah was standing behind my vanity chai we were both wearing one of my silk robes. She motioned for me to sit down so she could do my hair and makeup. She was always capable of doing her stuff by herself for parties and stuff, but I was totally clueless on what to do so I always let her doll me up.
