"REBECCA!" Colby's voice was loud as she stormed out of the office "Rebecca wait!" He grabbed her arm to stop her and she yanked away from him
"No!" She yelled as she spun around to face him "You didn't tell me anything about a wedding! You didn't tell me anything!"
"You never gave me the chance!" He yelled back and he looked around at the crowd of people that were not so subtly trying to watch the argument "Look.. there's a lot of things that you don't know.. there is a lot of things that I will explain to you but you have to give me the chance"
"Your dad said I have to marry you!" She exclaimed
"Can we please do this somewhere else? Somewhere more private so we don't give all these people reason to KEEP STARING" he emphasized the final two words as he looked around at the people who were intrigued "Please" he looked back at her
Rebecca reluctantly agreed to go talk to him.
Not because she wanted to talk to him, because she wanted to know what the hell she was getting herself into with this family.
They were in Colby's office now and Rebecca looked around at the spacious office, there was a solid black desk, the windows around the office showed off the downtown landscape perfectly.
"I'm adopted" Colby stated and Rebecca's eyes widened
"Well that's a hell of a way to start this conversation" she said
"You need to know that to understand" he said and she nodded "I'm adopted.. my dad adopted me but he had to have a wife.. we can't let the public believe that we aren't stable enough to run this giant company when we can't even have a stable relationship"
"That should say more about you as a person versus a business owner" she said and he rolled his eyes
"My dad married my mother before she had me.. he had adopted me months before I was born but since they were married nobody even thought anything of it.. they just assumed it was a shotgun wedding because they'd had sex before marriage.." He explained
"What does the past have to do with me and you getting married? Why do I have to marry you?"
"You don't have to marry me" he shook his head "Just pretend to make my dad happy"
"Just pretend?" She laughed "Pretending is what got us in this situation in the first place!"
"You don't have to sign anything to make it official.. I can have the lawyers draw up fake documents and they won't tell anyone because they are contractually obligated to keep their mouths shut" he said "Just sign the fake paperwork.. pretend to marry me and once the baby is here you can leave.. you can get on with your life and we won't ever discuss anything again"
"Won't your dad think something is suspicious when I go back in there and just agree to marry you after I've stormed out?" She questioned and he took a deep breath
"We'll fake it.. fake a relationship.. fake an engagement, fake a wedding.. fake a life together" he said "I'll pay you" he said when he saw her shaking her head "I know you said you're not exactly in the best financial situation.. I will pay you" he said
"You think you can just buy me? I'm not an object"
"I know that" he nodded "but I am over here trying to make my father's final days however many they may be happy.. I am trying to make sure whenever he does pass.. he knows that the company is in a good place, his son is well off in life and he has a grandchild to carry on the legacy"
