"You're late.." He said as he followed her into the house "Are you telling me you're pregnant?" He asked
"I don't know" she shook her head "I really don't know I wanted to wait until I actually took a test and knew the answer myself before I said anything to you" she said "but I didn't want to be alone when I did it because I was alone the first time I had to take a test and it was terrifying but now with the miscarriage I'm more scared to know if I'm actually pregnant again" she was rambling "I mean I'll be grateful for a baby but I'm also at more of a risk for another miscarriage because of the first one" she kept on and he just sat there listening to her vent
He listened to her ramble on and on, saying the same thing over and over again in different words for the next ten minutes.
"What do you do if I'm pregnant? What do I do? I work for you.. we aren't married, people know that.. I don't want to ruin the company's reputation by us not being married first.." She continued and he smiled "Why are you laughing?" She asked
"I love you" he said and that silenced her instantly "I love you so fucking much do you understand that?"
"You love me" she said in a whisper, it was almost as if she'd forgotten how to breathe
"I always thought of women as objects" he nodded "Just someone I could have a good time with and then move onto the next. I never expected to have kids or get married and I was completely okay if it never happened because I knew my father wouldn't be around long enough to know for sure if I ever got married or had kids.." He explained "and as Cliche as it sounds everything I was fine with not having suddenly became something I didn't want to miss out on when I met you" He took a deep breath
Colby didn't know if he wanted Rebecca to respond to him or not but he did know he had to get this off his chest.
"I knew when we first met that I was in so much trouble when it came to you because I knew you had this hold on me and that terrified me, I never let anyone breakdown any walls I'd put up but here you were just knocking them all down and there was nothing I could do" he shook his head "I knew I was in love with you for weeks now but I didn't want to scare you off by being too serious too quickly but I can't not tell you anymore.. I love you, I want to marry you, I want to raise a beautiful family with you.. everything I thought I didn't want has now become everything I will ever need in life"
He saw tears fall from her eyes and his eyes widened and he moved to her quickly and wrapped his arms around her tightly.
"That was supposed to be a happy thing" he kissed her head "I didn't mean to make you cry"
"I love you too" she said in a whisper, it made his heart race hearing her say it "Can I go take the test now?" She asked and he pulled back to look at her
"You have them here?" He asked and she nodded
"They're in the guest bathroom downstairs" she said and he let her go and followed her
He followed her down the hallway to the guest bathroom and leaned against the wall, he watched her open the cabinet door and pull the box out and it made his breathing speed up.. he didn't expect a box to make him so anxious.
He waited outside the door holding his breath as she took the test, all of the scenarios ran through his head as he waited for her to open the door once again. All of the good things, all of the bad things, the difficult moments, the juggling act he was going to have to figure out, everything was speeding through his head at once.
Three minutes felt like three hours.
Rebecca opened the door slowly with the test in her hands as she stared at it and then looked up at him then back to the test.
"You love me no matter what right?" She asked
"Of course" he nodded "That's not just something I can turn off"
"Cause I hope you're prepared for me to be a raging, hormonal mess the next few months" she said
"We're gonna be parents.." He said in disbelief
"We're going to be parents" she nodded slightly with a small smile
