Rebecca left the cottage in the early hours of the Monday morning. She was up before the sun had even begun to peek through the clouds.
To say she was nervous would be an understatement. She was scared, terrified out of her mind, and not to mention she was alone.
She never thought she would have to do this alone, She stayed up for hours talking to her husband on the phone for the last few days, and there was no way he could get to her. Brandon was camped out outside their front gate.. he was waiting for any sign of Rebecca.
As William dropped her off at the front entrance of the Dublin Hospital, the nerves fully hit her.
This was happening.
She got checked in at the front desk, and they took her to the maternity floor, where she had to get her vitals checked.
"The anesthesiologist will be in to speak with you in a few minutes," the nurse said with a nod as she threw her gloves in the trashcan next to the door. "Is there anyone we can call for you?" She asked
"No," Rebecca shook her head, and there was a knock on the door
"Kristina.. we need your help out here," a petite brunette nurse said urgently
"Did Mrs.Everett get out of bed again?" Kristina asked
Rebecca heard the commotion coming from the hallway, and her eyes widened.
"Stick your head out the door. His name is Colby.. tell him if he doesn't quiet down and be respectful, he will have hell to pay with his wife," Rebecca said, and the two nurses looked at her.
"He's been insulting," the petite brunette stated
"Just let him in here, and I'll handle it," Rebecca said, and the small woman stared at her for another second before nodding.
It took the woman being out of the room for a total of 30 seconds before Rebecca saw her husband walk quickly through the door, his hands on his hips as he stared at her.
"You go out there and apologize to those nurses" she pointed towards the door.
"They were useless," he argued.
"You are used to getting everything you want at a snap of your fingers" she shook her head. "They're doing their job. Go apologize"
"Rebecca," he shook his head as he took a step towards her, and she held her hand out to stop him.
"You want to kiss me?" She questioned, and he leaned down with a smirk, and she once again stopped him. "Go apologize," she said, and he stared at her.
"Fine," he groaned as he stomped towards the door.
"Pick your feet up when you walk!" She said with a roll of her eyes
"You're not my mom" he shook his head
"Well, you're acting like my third child," she said, and he looked back at her with a glare as she smiled at him.
While Colby left the room to apologize, the anesthesiologist came in.
After apologizing to the nurses, Colby finally greeted his wife after almost a month away from her.
"You never told me how you even got here?" She shook her head as she messed with the IV in her hand
"Does that matter right now? I got here, didn't I?" He asked as he reached for her hand to keep her from messing with the IV
"The anesthesiologist is going to try and give me a different type of medication so that I can stay awake, but if I have any reaction to it, they are going to give me the rescue medicine to bring me out of the attack, and then he will put me to sleep."
"You mean you're not going to be awake? What do I do in that situation?" He asked
"Once they get me in the O.R., the nurse will come to get you, regardless if I'm awake or not, you will be able to sit next to me.. they'll get her out, and more than likely take her straight to the NICU, I want you to go with her.. make sure she's okay before you come back to me."
"What if you're not okay.." He shook his head; he didn't even want to think of that as a possibility
"I'll be okay," she said with a slight nod. "Promise."
The doctors and nurses from the NICU came in to meet with the parents before the nurses took Rebecca to the Operating Room.
Colby was alone while he waited for a nurse to come to get him. This was different from C.J.'s birth four years ago.. the little boy was small, but he was okay. He spent a few days in the hospital but never once was he in the NICU.
This baby, his daughter, his baby girl.. they didn't know if she was even going to make it for more than a second outside of her mother this early. That was terrifying.
His phone rang from where it sat on the foldout couch next to the window. He looked at it and saw Kent's name.
"Kent, I don't have time," Colby answered quickly.
"I'm sorry, sir," Kent stated, "but I wanted to let you know everything has been taken care of," he said
"Did you get rid of.."
"The clothes, the car, the video footage from the security cameras have all been erased."
"What about.."
"The gun is currently being melted down as we speak. I'm watching it myself." Kent stated, "I just wanted to bring you up to speed on everything. You focus on your family and bringing your daughter into the world," the older man said "I've got everything handled over here. Nobody will ever know that you killed Brandon," he said, and Colby quickly hung up the phone
He killed Brandon.
He killed his brother.
He took someone else's life.
"Colby," the voice snapped him out of the trance he was in as he stared blankly at his phone. "We're ready for you in the O.R.," she said, and he threw the phone on the couch quickly.
One life ends, another begins.
