"But I don't wanna get pokes" CJ shook his head as he folded his arms across his chest

"You have to get shots, CJ," Rebecca said. "You have to get them to be able to go to daycare."

"CJ, no go to daycare," he said

"Well, what are you gonna do during the day then?" The redhead questioned

"I work with you" he looked up at her with his big brown eyes, and she shook her head

"You can't just work with me.. you've got to go to school before you work," she said, and CJ let out a huff as he folded his arms across his chest once again

There was a knock on the door, and Rebecca saw the same nurse that had checked them in twenty minutes ago follow the doctor in the room.

"We found somebody in the waiting area that says they belong here," the nurse said, and Rebecca saw Colby walk into the room.

"What are you doing here?" Rebecca asked

"This is the appointment where he gets bloodwork done, right?" He asked, and Rebecca nodded "and shots," he said, and she nodded once more. "He's never been to a doctor's appointment without me," he said

"I didn't tell you he had an appointment" she shook her head
"You didn't have to. Trevor told Kent last week," he said. She rolled her eyes, "and if we're going to co-parent and not be together, I'd appreciate it if you consult me with any major event.. tell me when he has appointments so I can plan to be here and not have to cancel meetings to get here."

"Are you two ready?" The doctor looked at the parents "if one of you would like to hold CJ and the other can distract," he said

"No!" CJ yelled. "NO!" He backed into the wall

"CJ.. hey.." Colby bent down to be eye level with him "buddy.. you've got to do this," he said

"You're gonna get poked in the finger, then poked in the arm, and you're gonna be all done," Rebecca said. The little boy shook his head.

"Would it make you feel better if mommy or daddy gets the test done with you?" The nurse asked, and Rebecca and Colby looked up at her with wide eyes

"Mommy," CJ pointed to his mother, and Rebecca shook her head as she stood up.

"I think Daddy would be a better idea," Rebecca said

"I want you to do it," CJ said to her, and Colby stood up

"Step right up, Mommy" Colby pushed Rebecca slightly, and she looked back at him with a glare as he stood up behind her

"I'm terrified of needles," she said through her teeth

"I know," Colby nodded with a smug smirk on his face. "You'll be okay.. you just gotta get one poke on the finger, and you'll be all done," he said, and she hit him in the chest

"You do it," she said to him, and he shook his head

"He wants you to do it" Colby nodded, and Rebecca let out a frustrated sigh before holding her finger out for the nurse

The nurse quickly wiped her finger down with an alcohol swab and let it dry for a few seconds before preparing the lancet

"On three," the nurse said as she looked at Rebecca, who nodded. "One.. Two.." She counted, and Rebecca quickly reached behind her with her free hand to grab Colby's hand in hers. "Three," the nurse said, and the poke happened

"You're good," Rebecca heard Colby's voice in her ear. "Almost done," he said as he ran his thumb over her hand

After the nurse finished taking Rebecca's blood sample, CJ was convinced it wasn't bad and agreed to get it done.

The blood test and shot happened without much of a fuss, but CJ shed a few tears in the process.

Thirty minutes later, Rebecca found herself looking through emails on her phone while they waited for the doctor to come back with CJ's test results. Colby sat in the chair with the little boy in his lap as they watched a video on his phone.

It was quiet in the room when the doctor came back in with a smile on his face as he read of CJ's chart.

"Well, CJ, the bad news is you're not gonna have to see me again for a whole six months" the doctor nodded. "The good news is you're all healthy and good to go to daycare.. bloodwork came back normal and healthy," he said with a nod.

"Mommy's too?" CJ questioned curiously, he wasn't about to forget about his mother's test, and Rebecca rolled her eyes

"Everything is good on my test, bud" Rebecca nodded

"Everything is great on your mommy's blood test" the doctor nodded. "Your little brother or sister is going to be very lucky to have you as a big brother."

"Excuse me?" Rebecca questioned

"What?" Colby asked in the exact second

"Your hormone levels are right where they should be" the doctor nodded

"I'm sorry.." Rebecca shook her head. "I'm not pregnant," she said with a laugh

"That blood test proves otherwise.." The doctor said as he pulled out her paperwork and showed it to her, and Colby stood up from the chair to look at the paperwork as well

They both read what the doctor was pointing to at the same time.
