Rebecca saw bright lights as she opened her eyes, she looked around at the medical equipment, the IV in her hand and she saw Kent sitting in a chair at the side of the bed in what looked like an uncomfortable chair.
"Kent.." She said in a whisper and the man opened his eyes and looked at her with a small smile
"Hey.. you're awake," he said as he sat up in the chair
"What even happened?" She asked as she ran her hand over her face and felt stitches in her forehead above her right eye "Where's Colby?" She asked immediately after that "Did he? Did he make it out?"
"There was a bomb under the front desk and it was on a pressure sensor.. once we got out of the warehouse, Colby had a choice.. he could either stay there and wait for another possible bomb to go off or let the doorknob go and try to make it out of the warehouse before it exploded"
"Is he okay?" She asked
"He's in a room down the hallway, he just got out of surgery, He's got a few issues.." Kent nodded "they had to remove the shrapnel out of his chest"
"Oh god" her hands fell over her face
"None of it was anywhere around his vital organs! So that's a good thing!"
"What else?" She asked
"His arm was also injured during the explosion but the doctors think they were able to repair it surgically and he shouldn't have any issues once it heals," he said
"I don't remember anything" she shook her head
"You passed out in my arms while screaming," Kent said
"The baby.." She placed her hand on her bump and she felt a gentle movement and it made her let out a deep breath
"I think that's him letting you know he's okay" Kent nodded with a smile
"Thank god" she wiped the tears from her cheeks
"The nurse did an ultrasound while they were giving you an IV for fluids to try and make sure you were okay.. they said that the baby was perfectly fine, didn't seem to be bothered by this at all which is a good thing" he explained and Rebecca nodded, "They said he looks to be a perfectly healthy little boy"
"Boy?" She asked in a breathless whisper "It's a boy?"
"It is" Kent nodded "I hope you two have names picked out"
"We argued about boy names the most" she nodded with a small laugh "I always said I wanted to name him Oliver..but Colby refuses, I think it sounds strong... it sounds like a CEO"
"Let me guess, Colby wants to name the kid after himself?"
"How did you guess?" Rebecca laughed
"Because I've been with the kid since he was a kid himself and he always said when and if he ever had a son, he was going to name him after himself, not because he was selfish.. but because he never wanted his son to question where he came from like he did as a child" he informed, "So Colby Junior it is?" Kent questioned and Rebecca folded her arms across her chest with a huff
Rebecca convinced her nurses to let her out of her room after hours of arguing and Kent agreeing to sit outside of Colby's room in case Rebecca needed anything.
She sat in the same wooden chair she'd seen Kent in an hour prior, and she was correct in her assumption, it wasn't comfortable at all.
She watched the monitors going up and down, the heart monitor was steadily beeping causing some type of noise in the otherwise silent room.
"Ya know, we've been through a lot since getting together," she said as she held tightly to Colby's hand "We have been through hell but its all going to be worth it.. everything is going to be worth it when we are holding our little boy," she said with a tear-filled laugh as she kissed his hand "We're having a boy.." She held his hand against her lips "You have a son.. and you have so much to teach him.. he has so much to learn from you so you've got to be okay because I can't teach him everything he needs to know"
"First things first" she heard Colby's voice and looked up at him with tear-filled eyes "We're calling him C.J"
