Chapter 8: The Upside Down

We are still waiting for the adults or Nancy and Jonathan to come back, but so far nothing. Who knows how long it is been since we last saw them.

Mike checks his watch, stands up and quickly walks away. We all look after him. A few minutes later, he comes back.

"They're gone." Mike says.

"What?" Lucas asks.

"Nancy and Jonathan. His car's gone." Mike explains.

"They're probably just sucking face somewhere." Dustin says.

I have no idea what that means, but according to Lucas' reaction, it is gross.

"Gross."

"No. No way!" Mike says.

"Did they go with the chief?" Dustin asks.

"I don't know." Mike says.

"No." El says.

"What?" Mike asks. "Did you see them? Do you know where they went?"

"Yes."

"Where? Where did they go?" Mike asks.

"Demogorgon." El says simply.

The boys get up and start talking. I hold El as she is still recovering.

"Guys, guys! This is crazy." Mike says. "We can't just wait around."

"Mike, in case you forgot, we're still fugitives. The bad men are still looking for us." Lucas reminds Mike.

"Yeah, and we don't even know where your sister is." Dustin adds.

"El can find them." Mike suggests.

I look up and glare at Mike. There is no way she has the strength to do that again.

"Mike, look at her." Dustin says, pointing at us. The boys turn and look at us. "I still think we should stick to the chief's plan."

"Exactly. We stay here, keep El and Tina out of sight and keep them safe." Lucas says. "That's the most important thing, remember? Besides, she's okay. She's with Jonathan."

"Yeah, and she's kind of a badass now, so...." Dustin trails off and turns. He starts walking away from us.

"Well, where are you going? You just said stick to the plan!" Mike calls after him.

"I am." Dustin calls back. "I'm just gonna go get some chocolate pudding. I'm telling you, Lunch Lady Phyllis hoards that shit."

"Are you serious?" Mike shouts as Dustin is nearly too far away.

Lucas walks after Dustin as Dustin says, "El and Tina need to be recharged!"

I follow Lucas and Dustin. Eventually we get to a place like Benny's place. Dustin opens a door and cold air comes from the inside. Inside the boxes, Dustin finds what he is looking for.

"Found it!" Dustin says. Lucas and Dustin start grabbing the stuff as Dustin continues, "I knew she was hoarding it. I knew it. Always lying, saying she was out. Bald-faced liar." He turns and shouts, "Mike, I found the chocolate pudding!"

"Okay!" Mike shouts back.

We continue to gather the pudding and bring it to El. Mike seems to have left for some reason.

"This will charge your battery right up, I'm telling you." Dustin says.

Mike runs to us as I open up one of the puddings. Inside is a brown goo. I sniff it and my nose scrunches up at the smell.
