Season 4, Episode 1: The Hellfire Club

Kassandra's POV

Dear Max,

Today is day 185. Jane said it feels more like ten years, and I agree. Joyce says time is funny like that. Emotions can make it speed up or slow down. We are all time travelers if you think about it.

For example, this week is going very fast. I think because I am so busy. I have to make something called a visual aid. I hope Mrs. Gracey will give me something better than a C.

Some exciting news. Joyce got an amazing new job. She gets to work at home. She says she loves the "freedom." Will is painting a lot, but he will not show anyone what he is working on. Maybe it is for special someone? Jane thinks there is someone he likes, because he has been acting weird. He did ask me to transform once so he could copy it, but it made a mess inside. Joyce did not like it.

Jonathan is acting weird also. Jane thinks he is just nervous about colleges. He is still waiting for his big letter. I hope he and Nancy get to go together. But I do not know how he will get to college because his car is still broken. His funny friend Argyle has been taking us to school. His hair is longer than Jane's, and he and Jonathan like to smoke smelly plants together. I do not like being around when they do. Too smelly. Make me feel weird. Jonathan says the plants are super safe because they come from the earth, but to not tell Joyce. There are many plants that are not good and they come from the earth. Remember the time I tried to eat a cactus from one of my earlier letters.

Jane and I are not happy here. Mike told Jane it just takes time. I do not want to wait. At first, we missed all the spring flowers. Then it was the trees. I could transform more when no one is watching, but I always have to look out for people.

And the people are the worst. I still hate school. It is too long and inside all the time. The teachers are mean and the students are meaner. I do not know how you have done this so many times.

The only one I like is Cody. You remember Cody. He also does not like school and they do not like him either. Everyone is mean to us both, but after I bit Angela, they run away from me. Cody showed me where to thrift. That is buying clothes, but cheaper. Cody is fun and makes me laugh, but when you come over we can hang out together.

I am so ready for spring break, mostly because I get to see you. I am very excited to see you, it is hard to breathe. Are you excited too? We have so much to talk about, because you have not sent me many letters. I hope you are not only responding to the ones you get, because that would mean the mail is bad at getting to you. I think we will have the best spring break ever.

I hope my spelling was better this time. Because you are coming here soon, you do not have to call, unless you want to. Do not need to worry about me flying to you this time.

Miss you.

From Kassie.

I smile as I think of the last letter I sent to Max. She should be receiving it today.

I pick up my visual aid of the Incredible Hulk and look into Jane's room. She is still painting the small figurine of Dad. I walk down the hall and put it with my bag by the door, so I do not forget it. Again.

Joyce is working on the phone job. "I can send you a previous edition as a loaner to see if you like the product before committing to purchasing it.... Yeah, I'm—I'm not a robot. You do realize that, don't you?" Joyce slams the phone down on the receiver. "Prick."
