Season 2, Chapter 8: The Gate
Max's POV
"Eleven." Mike says, shocked.
The two teenagers come together and hug each other tightly.
"Mike." Eleven gasps.
The two sway back and forth as they try not to cry after finally seeing each other after so long.
"Is that..." I ask.
Lucas nods answering my question.
Mike pulls away and says, "I never gave up on you. I called you every night. Every night for—"
"353 days." Eleven finishes for him. "I heard."
Mike looks shocked. "Why didn't you tell me you were there? That you were okay?"
"Because I wouldn't let her." Hopper says, stepping forward. "The hell is this? Where you been?"
"Where have you been?" Eleven fires back.
Hopper pulls Eleven into a hug and they hug tightly.
"You've been hiding her." Mike realizes. Anger takes over as he shouts, "You've been hiding her this whole time!"
Mike shoves Hopper, who turns and looks at the young teen. "Hey!" He grabs Mike by the front of his shirt and says, "Let's talk. Alone."
They go off into a separate room, but we can still hear everything they're saying.
"Protecting her! Protecting her?"
"Listen. Listen to me. The more people know about them, the more danger they're in. And the more danger you and your family are in—"
"Oh what, I should be thanking you then?"
"I'm not asking you to thank me! I'm asking you to try to understand."
"I don't! I don't understand!"
"That's fine. That's fine! Just don't blame them! All right? They're upset enough as it is. Especially her."
"I don't blame her! I blame you! I blame you!"
"That's okay, kid. That's okay."
"No! Nothing about this is okay! Nothing about this is okay!"
"Oh, jeez—"
"You're a stupid, disgusting, lying piece of shit!"
"Okay. All right! Stop it."
"Liar!"
"Stop it."
"Liar!"
"It's okay."
"Liar!"
Mike breaks down into sobs as the emotions come pouring out.
The rest of us just stand awkwardly listening to all of this.
As we hear it coming to a close, Eleven hugs Lucas and Dustin at the same time.
"We missed you both." Lucas says.
"We missed you, too." Eleven replies.
"We talked about both of you pretty much every day." Dustin mentions.
They break from the hug and Eleven grabs at Dustin's face.
"Teeth." She says.
"What?"
"You have teeth." Eleven clarifies.
Dustin grins. "Oh. You like these pearls?" He proceeds to do a weird purring sound, which causes Eleven to step back.
