Falling

Family

Tina awoke to rapid tapping on the door and jumped upright. She had fallen asleep after everyone's insistence in the vacant bed in the room after being assured that Newt was asleep. Everyone was staying at Sherringford square so Queenie brought her some spare clothes then said they would hopefully return with Newts and Theseus' parents early the next morning . Looking over at Newt she saw he was stirring so quickly got changed out of her pyjamas and went to open the door. The outer corridor had a collection of people in it all looking slightly restless.

Nagini, Queenie, Leta and Jacob all stood back slightly while Theseus and a tall dark-haired man were trying to reassure a distraught red-haired woman. However, the man seemed just as distressed.
Newts parents
"Tina-" Theseus began but the short woman's protests overshadowed him
"M-MY BABY!"
"Helena he's fine the healer said so-"
"HE WAS IN A COMA HENRY IN WHAT WORLD IS THAT FINE!" She continued to sob
"Is everything ok Theseus?" Tina asked wearily and the woman stopped spluttering to look Tina in the eye. She took a deep breath and asked with an unsteady but kind smile
"You must be Tina?"
"Y-ea and I'm assuming you're Newt and Theseus' Mother?"
"You assume correctly my dear. I'm Helena Scamander" The woman moved forward and Tina expected a handshake but she was engulfed in a strong hug squeaking slightly in surprise she began to hug back. Who Tina assumed was Newts father was staring at his feet but cleared his throat pointedly. Helena pulled away and straightened Tina's blouse before saying
"Well I can see why Newton was head over heels for you after three days, you're beautiful darling" Tina felt herself blush deeply and she muttered a quick
"Thank you"

Helena stood impatiently to the side and Newts father offered her an uncertain handshake. He spoke in a much softer tone than his wife and said "Hello I'm Henry Scamander, Newts father"
"Pleased to meet you" Tina stated, well aware that the best way to address shy Englishmen was to keep responses sincere but brief. He bobbed his head and joined his wife in peering apprehensively over Tinas shoulder. That was when she realised she was still blocking the door so she blushed and moved aside. Helena hurried in as did Henry and the rest of the group moved in swiftly past her with Queenie giving her a thumbs up, Nagini a small smile and Leta a reassuring nod, obviously having been in a similar position as well.

Helena gasped loudly at the sight of a motionless Newt and Henry muttered
"Merlin's beard" under his breath. Newt still did not look well and the newly healed scars still shone in the low light. Tina knew he was at least somewhat awake so she slipped over to his bedside and brushed his fringe out his eyes. Sure enough seconds later his eyes fluttered open and he yawned adorably before offering her a sleepy smile.
"G'mornin Tina"
"NEWTON!" Helena bellowed and he visibly jumped and yelped in pain. Tina helped him upright and once he was propped up against his pillows he cowered from his mother's stare.
"Oh this is going to be good" Theseus chuckled lowly and Leta smacked him around the ear.
"WHAT WERE YOU DOING ON AN AUROR MISSION? YOU ARE NOT AN AUROR NEWTON ARTEMIS FIDO SCAMANDER AND LOOK WHERE ITS GOTTEN YOU! AFTER NEW YORK I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO STOP GETTING IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS!SO WHAT WERE YOU DOING THERE?"
Newt looked at his hands and murmured
"They had Tina. They were going to hurt her. I love her, I couldn't let it happen" Helenas face softened and she comforted him in a way that was reminiscent of how you'd comfort a child
"I know darling but that's Theseus' job"
"Theseus could have got hurt too" Newt muttered. Tina could see Helena wasn't getting anywhere and she sighed in defeat muttering about stubbornness under her breath. Realising that she might have more luck she nudged him gently prompting him to look up. He met her eyes with uncertainty swirling around his pupil
"Newt, I'm an auror-" she saw both Henry and Helena's eyebrows raise at that and look to the rest of the group for confirmation
Newt must not have told them how we met
"And I'm going to get hurt. I am so thankful that you found me but if you're going to insist on going on dangerous missions will you at least let us help you get up to speed with your duelling. I don't want you running headfirst into danger with an incomplete education in defence against the dark arts" Newt looked slightly guilty but nodded anyway. His eyes dropped again and Tina lifted his chin up so he was looking in her line of sight.
"Please promise me we won't have to have this conversation again?" Tina pleaded, holding up her pinkie as an offering
Newt smiled bashfully and slowly wrapped his pinkie around hers.
"I promise" He murmured in response
"Good now I'll leave you at the mercy of your mother," Tina said with a smile then began to walk over to Queenie and Jacob as she heard Newt complain softly
"Wait, Tina!" Queenie, Leta and Jacob laughed and Tina smiled and then laughed too at Newts pouting.
