I wake up in an unfamiliar room. My head spins as I try to remember last night but nothing comes to mind. When I wake I find I'm in my underwear and a bra.

"Hello?" I call out quietly. A pain goes through my throat as I speak and swallow. There's a pounding sensation in my head and I get myself out and make my way to the bathroom. There's luckily one connected to the room I was in and as soon as I make my way in I cower over the toilet and hurl. That's so disgusting...

All I seem to remember last night is beer pong and drinking way too much. Am I in Sero's house? God I really hope not. I throw up one more time, and find some mouthwash in the sink. My vision starts to clear once I splash myself in the face, and I notice the pink walls... Who's room is this?

As I push myself up, I steady out my legs. My entire body feels like shit, and then it comes to me, I have a mission to be on. A clock sits on the nightstand and it's ten. Tsunade told me to meet at the gates for twelve, so at least I have some time. Searching the room, I find my ninja clothes and put them on. They're folded on the floor next to where I woke up and they seem to be washed.

"Hey, you up Madi?" comes a man's voice.

My eyes turn to see Shikamaru standing in the doorway. "Oh thank god Shikamaru," I say before going up to hug him.

"You're a mess," he tells me as I hold him in my arms.

When I pull away I look at him, "What happened?"

"Ino came by last night, saying that you were 'too drunk to function.' Then she asked if I could take you in since she knew my mom and dad weren't home. I complied and let you sleep in my sister's old room. I also washed your clothes and prepared breakfast," he explained to me.

This is shameful, I let myself get so lost. It's so embarrassing, that I put my head into my hands and turn away from the boy standing behind me. Ignoring the hand he put on my shoulder as an act of reassurance, I speak up. "I'm sorry to be a bother."

His hand turns me to face him and he looks me in the eyes, "You're not a bother Madi, you're trying to cope. It's fine, I'm here for you."

His words are supposed to be reassuring, but it bothers me that he's worried.  "Thank you Shika, but I'll be fine."

He sighs and we both walk down to the kitchen. The food he made smells amazing and I see the spread of different breakfast foods. We sit down and begin to eat.

"This is really good Shika," I tell him.

He blushes slightly, "Yeah, yeah."

"You've really grown up, you look good," I tell him. It's true, I haven't seen him in two years and he looks a lot different, not a bad thing.

My comment throws him off a bit, "Uh, yeah, it has been a while.... You look really pretty."

"Thanks Shika," I say and look down with a blush.

We talk for a while and I wash our dishes. It's eleven fifteen and I tell him I have to go to my house. We say our goodbyes and I head home. Shikamaru doesn't live far from Naruto's apartment, so the journey is pretty short.

As soon as I step in the house, Naruto looks at me. I can't stand to see him right now, I'm still angry at him for what he did. I walk past him and into the living room to grab my weapons pouch. My hands work to fasten them on my leg and I grab my Anbu mask. For the remainder of the time I just go to the top of the Hokage's faces to watch the village.

The view is so different than how it is at night. People are rustling around and all the lights are on. J watch the village with a lit cigarette between my lips. Everything is so lively and it seems wrong that some people are just so content with the world around them. People are dying everyday and their ignorance makes me angry. The fact that none of them see the flaws of the world, and no one will change it. The way of the shinobi will bring nothing more than corruption to our world. Power hungry leaders are what got us here, and it will be them that causes our downfall.

I stab one of my kunai into the side of the mountain so I can come up whenever I feel like it. Then I transport to the kunai I left at Naruto's apartment. It's probably about time for me to go to the gates and so head off. When there I'm met with a surprised Naruto and Sakura.

"What are you doing here Madi? And why are you holding an Anbu mask?" Sakura asks me.

This draws my gaze to the cat mask I hold in my right hand, and then back up to the two members of Team 7. "I'm an Anbu Black Opps member now," I tell them and show them my left shoulder. Both their eyes widen and I continue, "Tsunade has assigned me to this mission, although mine is not the same as yours. You two seek information in regards to finding Sasuke, while my only objective is to keep you and your team safe."

"I don't need protection! Especially from my little sister!" Naruto yells, but I ignore him. We stand in silence for a while before I put my Anbu mask on.

Two people join us and I introduce myself. The one with weird brown hair smiles and introduces himself, "Hello, I am Captain Yamato. Since you and I are equals though, just call me Yamato." I nod and look to the pale boy with jet black hair.

"You can call me Sai," he says with a fake smile. He's rather odd, he must be the one Tsunade told me to keep an eye on.

The team then heads out of the village and I follow behind them. Naruto and Sai bicker the entire way. One comment in particular made by Sai really seemed to piss off Naruto. Naruto had just made a comment about how Sai was nothing like Sasuke.

"I'm glad, he betrayed the village. I am not a traitor, so I don't care that I'm not him," Sai spoke.

"What did you just say?!" Naruto shouted.

Now was my time to intervene, "Naruto, Sai is right. Sasuke has done nothing but hurt you and he did in fact leave the village."

The blonde boy looks over to me, surprised at my words and that I was even speaking to him. "You can't mean that Madi," he says with sorrow lingering in his tone.

I stay silent but Sakura looks up at Sai and starts to apologize on Naruto's behalf. Sai is fooled by Sakura and then she punches him right in the face.

"I don't care if you forgive me though. Say one more thing about Sasuke and I won't hold back next time," an anger ridden Sakura says. She then turns to me, "You knew Sasuke better than any of us, I can't believe you'd say that."

"Your right," I say in response. "I did know him better than both of you, and once you seem him again you'll realize he's changed forever. Out of any of us, I've seen him most recently. The last time I saw him, he was fighting me so I'd join Orochimaru. To get out of this situation I ended up stabbing Sasuke in the side. Nothing any of you say will change my opinion, and if he tries to hurt any of you I will kill him."

Everyone, including Yamato, looked at me with wide eyes. No one expected me to say that, and their breathing staggered. At this very moment they realized just how much I've changed. It was about time they figured out that I'll do anything to protect them, even if it means killing someone I love.

"There's a hot spring along the way. We can either camp out here and sort out our problems, or we can behave and spend our time at a nice hotel."

We all nod and continue to walk in silence. No one except Sai even dared looking at me. We arrived at the hot springs and we checked in for one room. Once we got settled, Sakura and I head into the hot springs.

Before actually getting in the water, I take the pack of cigarettes I bought out of my pockets and light it. I grabbed some before we left, and it helps me feel a little bit of relief. Before I take a drag, I make my way outside and slip into the hot spring.

Sakura comes in after me and just stares at the cigarette in my mouth.

"Madi, that's not good for you," she says in a sweet tone.

"It feels good," I say without looking at her.

She heaves a sigh, "You're so different Madi. I know you've been through things that I can't understand, but you can't throw yourself away."

Finally I turn to look at Sakura, who is now sitting next to me. "Sakura, don't meddle. I don't need you worrying about me. I'm fine on my own."

"Madi," she tries to tell me. "This isn't going to be good for you. You'll do something you'll regret."

"That's the thing Sakura, I don't care. Even talking to you right now is straining, so I'm leaving. I don't forget what you did. You shouldn't have held me back," I finish and walk out of the hot spring.
