*The next day*

Date: January 8th

That friend group was... kind of friendly. Other than the fact that they unintentionally said things that terrified Beomgyu. To the point where now he never wanted to go back there.

When he got to school the next day, he was confused to find out that Soobin wasn't there. Soobin hated school, sure. He thought math was useless and absolutely hated everything to do with it. But he knew he needed to succeed at it to have a good future. That's why he never missed any days.

"Where's Soobin?" He asked, walking over to Kai at his locker.

"He's at home. He... got into a fight."

Beomgyu's eyes widened. "A fight?"

Soobin? The sweet, loveable boy who cried while holding a tiny kitten? The boy who could never hurt a fly got into a fight?

"What happened?"

"It wasn't serious. It was just... one of our friends. They've made up."

"Who?"

Kai smiled and shook his head. "Don't be so worried. Soobin's alive, and he's okay."

"Is it okay if I come over after school? Just to see him-"

"I don't think that's a good idea."

Beomgyu furrowed his eyebrows in offense. "I've been to your house before. What's the problem?"

"Once. And that was only because your sister wasn't home and you wanted to sleep in my room. I'm sorry, but you really can't come over."

He walked away and Beomgyu nearly stomped his foot in frustration. Kai was just being stubborn. But Beomgyu knew where he lived, and he was more stubborn. He was always like that. Breaking the rules to get the harmless thing he wanted.

But it was usually just because he wanted to see or help someone.

*Ten years ago*

"You didn't see his face?"

"He already told you he didn't," Ari said, hugging a mentally paralyzed Beomgyu to her side as they sat in a police station. "You're gonna keep pestering a ten year old who just watched both of his parents die?"

She had tears in her eyes too, but she didn't cry. All she wanted was to help Beomgyu through this, and she thought crying wouldn't help that.

The detective walked away and she sighed, fear washing over her as to what would happen now. Beomgyu was a child. Where would he go?

"Are you gonna take care of me?" His tiny voice asked, hiccuping as he looked at her, and she felt her heart break a little bit.

"I don't know. That's up to them."

"Can I see them?"

"Who?"

"Mom and dad. I miss them." Beomgyu was old enough to know it would be impossible. He knew what death was, and he knew of the grieving process that came out of it.

Denial. The first stage of grief. He knew it was true, but he didn't want to accept it. He didn't want it to be true.

*Present day*

Beomgyu walked up the driveway to Kai and Soobin's house, knocking on the door for a second to realize that it was already slightly open.

"Hello?" He called out, opening the door the rest of the way. It was a pretty large wooden house.

Don't tell him this entire friend group lives together too.

He shut the door behind him and walked upstairs to Soobin's room, being surprised when he saw him laying down shirtless, scrolling on his phone. There were scratches and bruises all over his body, and-

Wait.

Scratches?

"Soobin," he said softly, and the boy quickly covered his body.

"What?"

"I wanted to check on you. Kai said you got into a fight with one of your friends." He walked over to the bed and handed him a small white box. "And I got you some cheesy bread."

He stood with his hands behind his back, like an innocent puppy, and Soobin chuckled. "Thank you Beomgyu. Yeah, it's just... Jeno and I were playing around is all." Beomgyu tilted his head.

"All these bruises and scratches were playing?"

"Yeah."

Soobin was a terrible liar. So much so that Beomgyu almost snorted. "Did you make him mad?"

"Kind of..."

"You're like way taller than him though. You could've taken him."

Soobin laughed a little bit. "I may have size on my side, but he has strength. Anyway, it's fine. He's fine."

"He's fine? But you're not? That doesn't seem like a fair fight." He looked out the window and saw all of them hanging out in the backyard, minus Kai who was nowhere to be seen. "I'm gonna go talk to them."

"Wait."

Soobin was too injured to stop him though, and Beomgyu walked downstairs and out the back door. "Hey," he said semi-calmly, walking over to them. "Um... what happened with Soobin?"

"We just playfully fought," Jeno said. "Nothing serious."

A scratch on Jeno's eyebrow. A scratch. Meanwhile, Soobin was too weak to get out of bed. Beomgyu was a protective friend. Guess he and Seonghwa had a lot in common.

"You don't really seem that injured..." Beomgyu mumbled.

"Soobin's not very violent."

"And you apparently are." That caught the attention of who Beomgyu knew to be Jeno's boyfriend, the white haired boy glaring at him with dark eyes.

"Call him violent again," Jaemin said. "I dare you."

He stood up and Beomgyu stepped back, feeling intimidated even though they were the same height. Soobin was right. It wasn't about height. It was about strength, and Jaemin was terrifyingly more broad than him.

"Men," Yeji shook her head. "Stop being so violent all together. There's no need for it. Jaemin sit back down or I'll beat your ass."

That made Beomgyu laugh in such a weird situation, but it soon turned into a loud scream. Speaking of turning into things, when he looked back at Jaemin, all that was there was a huge silver wolf.

"Jaemin, you idiot!" Renjun yelled, shaking his head as Beomgyu fell back onto the ground, hard.

The wolf was growling, walking forward and making Beomgyu crawl backwards. But he soon came to his senses and managed to stand up, collecting enough balance to start running away.

While running, he gasped when he saw a familiar face walk into the field. "Taehyun, run!" He screamed. The boy just stood there, leading to Beomgyu running behind him and using him for safety.

Wait.

The wolf stopped.

The wolf actually stopped.
