"Ali?""Ali?"
"Alisha."
Alisha suddenly turned to look at the person driving the Jeep Wrangler that she was in.
"Oh - um, sorry babe." She told Sean quickly as she came back to reality.
Sean rose his brows at her, trying to keep his eyes on the road all the while. "You okay? You kind of spaced out just now."
"Oh yeah. Totally." Alisha spoke.
She could tell Sean didn't believe her.
"Really? Because it seems to me like you're not listening to a word I'm saying. Am I starting to bore you that much?" He asked with a light chuckle.
Alisha smiled at Sean before leaning over to place a kiss on his cheek. "Please. As if you could ever bore me."
Sean reached over and took Alisha's hands.
"Then what's bothering you?" He asked her.
Alisha sighed. "I was just... thinking about Jeremy."
"Ouch. Thinking of another guy when you're with your boyfriend? That blows."
Alisha squeezed Sean's hand lightly. "You know it's not like that." She told him.
But wasn't it? She wondered to herself as her mind took her to that night in Jeremy's room.
Before everything started to go wrong.
"I'm just worried about him, that's all." Alisha spoke.
"His still ignoring you?" Sean asked.
Alisha flinched slightly.
The way Sean phrased the question stung but she knew that was exactly what was going on. No matter how anyone tried to sugar coat it for her.
"Today in class, he wouldn't even look at me. And I'm pretty sure he left early so that I wouldn't get the chance to speak to him."
Sean shook his head. "Sounds like some serious jerk move. If I were you, I would stop trying, he clearly doesn't want to talk to you."
Alisha knew Sean was just trying to be on her side like he always was but this time, he was saying all the wrong things. Things that just made her feel worse.
"Well I can't. He's my best friend." Alisha told Sean. "And I know his only acting this way because he's hurting."
Hurt people pushed others away, right?
It happened.
"Is he talking to any of your other friends?" Sean asked.
"No."
He wasn't talking to Tam or Mike either and he sure as hell wasn't talking to Sabrina.
"Then maybe just give him more time." Sean told Alisha reaching out to take her hand with the one that wasn't on the steering wheel. "In the meantime, you have me to keep you busy. And I've been told I'm not too bad company."
Alisha smiled. "That you aren't."
To this day people asked Alisha how her and Sean even happened and she was just as dumbstruck.
Sean had showed up at the end of the last school year and pretty much all the girls had been taken by him. Who could blame them?
He was the literal definition of hot. At least that's how her best friend described him.
It was no surprise to Alisha when he immediately befriended her sister's friend group. The 'popular' kids.
What surprised her was that he actually paid attention to her.
