"Can we be real with each other for a sec?" Matt spoke.
Sasha looked at him from where she was lying down on the couch they both were on.
"Always." Sasha spoke wondering where he was going with this
The credits of the movie they had been watching were flashing on the screen. Rudy had barely made it halfway through before calling it a night and retreating to his room.
"What's going on with you?" Matt asked.
Sasha pushed herself up into a sitting position so that she could look at Matt properly.
"What do you mean?"
Matt gave her a 'don't play dumb with me' look.
" I know that I've been caught up with my Elena drama but I've noticed that you haven't been yourself. And I'm worried. So what's wrong?"
Sasha and Matt had been friends long enough to be able to tell when something was off with each other.
"Why does everyone keep saying that? I'm fine." Sasha spoke defensively.
Matt gave her a look of doubt.
"Did something happen at your Gram's house?" He asked.
"What? No. Hanging out with grams was fun." She told him.
It actually helped a lot with getting her mind off the real problem.
"Then, what is it?" Matt asked. "You know you can talk to me, right?"
Sasha did know that. She had always known that Matt was a friend she could count on.
Sasha grabbed a pillow and turned to face Matt hugging it.
"I - um... I just think I'm going through some changes in life and I don't know if I want to be me anymore."
Sasha had been feeling seriously off and she knew that the people around her speculating hadn't been wrong at all.
She was a free spirited person by nature and dating Mason had been about the most free spirited thing she had done.
But him abandoning her? That had made her question a lot of things in life.
Matt frowned. "What brought this on?"
Sasha wanted to tell Matt about Mason but she knew that if she did, he would make her tell Tyler and she just wasn't ready for that. Especially not the betrayal that Tyler would feel.
"I don't know, turning seventeen?" She spoke with a huff. "I guess I've just been hit with this existential crisis. I want purpose in life. I want something that will bring meaning to it."
Matt reached forward and placed his hand on Sasha's knee.
"You have plenty of purpose, you're a daughter, a sister, a star soccer player, my best friend." He grinned at her. "Maybe that's not enough in 'Sasha's master plan' but it's a start, right?"
Sasha smiled. Matt was right. She had always dreamt of life beyond Mystic Falls. NYU had been her dream, she had always wanted to live in the city.
She had spoken about it countless times with Mason. Now he was probably living their dream without her.
"Hey." Matt spoke, scooting closer to her. "Life will happen when it's supposed to. For now, can we just be here? Live in the moment like you always say?"
Sasha nodded. That was her motto afterall, living life to the fullest.
"Deal." She told Matt. "And in the spirit of that."
