Haunted

Elena answered her front door to find Stefan on her porch.

She felt relieved and glad that he had actually shown up.

She stepped out closing the door behind her promptly.

"Hey. Thanks for coming. I wouldn't have called if it wasn't important." She spoke. He had after all told her that he wanted to be away from her from now on just a few hours ago.

"I know that." Stefan nodded searching her with his eyes as if worried that something might have happened to her.

Even though she had already explained that the issue was about Bonnie and Sasha.

Elena wrapped her arms around herself. "He threatened them, Stefan."

Stefan paused for a second. He didn't need much time to think about who Elena was talking about. He knew that she meant his very own brother but what he was confused about was the 'why'.

"What would Damon want with Sasha and Bonnie?" Stefan asked.

"Bonnie has this necklace." Elena explained. "Caroline got it from Damon, and she gave it to Bonnie, and now Damon wants it back. So now he's tormenting the twins."

"Over a necklace?" Stefan asked in confusion.

"It's not just any necklace. It has to do with Bonnie and Sasha's heritage. It belonged to one of her ancestors who lived here during the Civil War...When you and Damon lived here."

Stefan shifted uncomfortably as a memory came back to him.

"Her name was Emily. She was Katherine's handmaiden, and a witch." Stefan explained.

Elena was quiet for some time. Stefan had known about Sasha being a witch before she had. He obviously also knew about Bonnie.

Damon had obviously found out as well and that's why he must have been tormenting her friends.

"Well for some reason he wants that necklace."

"What does it look like?" Stefan asked.

Elena realised that Sasha must have had it underneath her shirt when they had spoken to Stefan.

"It's an antique iron setting with a-"

"-with an amber crystal." Stefan finished for her confirming his own fears. "I know it. It belonged to Katherine. Emily gave it to her, which means that..."

"What?" Elena asked. Stefan had gotten a far away look on his face.

"I don't know, but I'm gonna find it out. Let me talk to Damon." Stefan spoke. A steely determination on his face.

"Will he tell you?" Elena asked in concern.

"I'll get it out of him." Stefan promised. He then frowned and looked up at the house. "Is Sasha in there."

"Yeah, she's with Bonnie. They're staying over." Elena explained.

Stefan didn't ask the question he had actually been wanting to ask.

"She's hurt." Elena spoke as if reading his mind. "By what you said. About just... leaving us. And honestly Stefan... so am I."

Stefan frowned. He had spent years avoiding getting close to people for this very reason. He didn't want to them to get hurt but he also got tired of always saying goodbye.

"It's for the best." He told Elena softly.

She sighed. "So you say."

"I'll find Damon and get answers." Stefan spoke.
