"Hey !"

Alisha smiled at the older woman in front of her.

"Hey Mrs Maxwell." Alisha held up the hanger she was holding. "Just dropping off Mike's costume. Tam asked me to bring it over."

"Oh come in sweetie." Mrs Maxwell spoke ushering Alisha into the house. "How's your daddy?"

"Dad's great. Just working himself to the bone." She responded.

Mrs Maxwell laughed lightly. "Classic Rudy."

Alisha heard giggling and saw two little girls running out the back door.

"Estelle! You better have finished your homework."

"I did mum!" Estelle yelled.

Alisha smiled. Estelle was Mike's little sister and if she was to guess, she was probably with Keisha her best friend.

"Excited for the carnival today, baby?" Mrs Maxwell asked as she walked to their kitchen.

Alisha followed.

"Yeah. Sabrina, Tam and I have the perfect costumes."

"Can't wait to see them." Mrs Maxwell spoke. "You girls always look as cute as buttons. Mike and Josh still won't tell me what their costumes are." She huffed.

Alisha giggled. "Well you're not alone there. They've been super secretive about the entire thing."

Alisha might have been delivering Mike's costume but even she wasn't allowed to peek.

"I swear, those boys have a flare for the dramatic." Mrs Maxwell spoke as she opened her oven.

"Are you baking for the festival?" Alisha asked eagerly.

Mrs Maxwell smiled.

"Yes. I happen to be catering. I'm just finishing up the pies here because I couldn't get anyone to babysit for Estelle. Mike volunteered to help set up over there."

"Well I'm sure everyone will be looking forward to your food most of all." Alisha spoke. "And if you want, I could watch Estelle. I'm not doing anything until the carnival starts."

Yep. She wasn't doing anything. Nothing at all. Especially since Jeremy hadn't even bothered to text. One date went crashing down just because Vicki Donovan decided to show up.

"How sweet of you, baby." Mrs Maxwell spoke. "But it's okay. I'll just leave her at Keisha's place and go over to finish everything up at the restaurant."

Alisha had always looked up to Mrs Maxwell. Even when Mike's dad had up and left them, she still picked herself up and opened a popular restaurant in town. It's where all the good food was. The Grill was just a chill spot. But her restaurant, the Claw, was where you went if you wanted a delicious hearty meal.

"Mum! Have you seen my - oh Ali!"

Mike came into the kitchen, his car keys in his hand.

"Got your costume." Alisha announced holding it up.

"Nice!" Mike grinned as he took it from her. "You guys better be ready to get your minds blown."

Alisha and Mrs Maxwell shared a look. Definitely a drama queen.

"So I was gonna head out. Caroline will kill me if I'm not there to help set up in the next ten minutes. Want me to drop you off somewhere, Ali."

Alisha shrugged. "Need any more volunteers? I literally have nothing to do."

Mike smiled. "There's always room for an additional person for Caroline to boss around."

"Sweet." Alisha spoke.
