"Hey! Good morning!"
The familiar cheerful voice coming through the speaker of his phone woke Jungkook up. He hadn't checked the caller ID when he had gotten the call. Without even bothering to open his eyes, he had blindly picked the device up and put it over his ears, his sleepy body still curled under the warm duvet.
But now hearing Lisa's voice, he nearly jolted on the bed, eyes snapping open as he quickly sat up. He didn't even have the time to wonder why Jimin and Hoseok weren't in the room or where they could have gone.
He cleared his throat and mumbled, his voice a little nasally and groggy, "Hi..."
He took a quick glance at the digital clock on the bedside table to check the time. 8:47. He was late for breakfast. Why didn't anyone wake him up?
"Everything alright there?" He heard Lisa ask, her voice as energizing as ever, but he heard a hint of doubt lacing her tone for some reason.
"Yeah, why?" He ran his hands through his hair, pushing back the long strands that were falling on his forehead.
"Nothing, just-...I was expecting a call or maybe a text from you the whole day yesterday, but you didn't..." Lisa murmured, a sigh escaping her lips afterwards, "I know you're busy enjoying the trip with your friends but I-...I miss you, Jungkook." She softly spoke, sounding a little hesitant, "I don't expect you to call me every other hour, but maybe a few pictures once in a while...or just a text...? Ugh, I probably sound like an annoyingly clingy girlfriend, don't I?"
"No!" Jungkook rushed to say, "No, you don't, Lili. It's not wrong of you to ask for what you need from me, be it a few pictures or-..." He trailed off, not finding the courage to navigate that one particular area of conversation yet. So, instead he chose the easy way to deal with it. "I'm sorry."
And even though the sound was too low, he couldn't have missed Lisa clicking her tongue, as if she was sort of frustrated, "You know I don't say how I'm feeling only for you to apologise and put an end to it like that."
Jungkook frowned, clueless, "Then what do you expect me to say?"
There was an awkward pause on the line. He wondered if he should've said he missed her too or something like that. And when he only heard Lisa heave a sigh after a moment, he knew that that was indeed what he should've said even though he hadn't actually missed her.
...Was that bad?
"Never mind." Lisa ignored her boyfriend being quiet, swiftly changing the topic, "Tell me how your trip is going. I saw the pictures Jimin oppa posted on Instagram. Boryeong seems pretty nice! You guys even went to some mud museum. I didn't know such places existed! What is it like? What did you do?"
Jungkook exhaled and started telling her how they had spent the previous day, mentioning the mud and coal museums, the seashell hunting, the seafood lunch, the forest, the dinner- everything, except Taehyung. He intentionally avoided bringing up the guy's name or anything that had happened between the two of them.
