Jungkook didn't reach out to Lisa.
At least not properly, how she was expecting him to. She kept waiting since the very moment she noticed the 'delivered' turn into 'read'— for some reply to all the texts or maybe a call, heck, somewhere she was even hoping for him to show up at her door to apologise and make up, even though she knew it was a little too cinematic.
But in the end all she received was just a single text: I'm sorry...
No further explanation, no reassurance, no promise of making it up to her. Just a simple apology— one that sounded...somewhat distant to her even if it wasn't exactly a sound. Maybe because it was just a text; it wasn't meant to convey the emotions behind the words. It wasn't capable of doing so.
She should've understood that, that it was all just in her head. Jungkook was really sorry but was probably too embarrassed to say something more, struggling to find the right words. They would bring up the topic once they would meet and talk out and everything would be okay.
Yet somehow, the more she stared at those two words on her screen, the more she felt like she could hear how dull and insincere the apology was. As if her last text didn't bother him. As if he wasn't even sorry.
And maybe that was the truth.
Because she had seen them.
She had seen them with her own eyes— Jungkook and Taehyung, laughing together, utterly absorbed in each other's company. They had looked happy, and why would Jungkook feel sorry for being happy? He shouldn't.
His ringing laughter was still echoing in her ears, bright and unrestrained, as she tossed her phone aside and leaned back against the couch, staring blankly at the ceiling, a hollowness creeping into her chest to think that Taehyung had taken up all his attention in such a way that Jungkook hadn’t even remembered to let her know that he was leaving before her, that she would have to go home alone.
She wasn't jealous or angry. No. That would be extremely ridiculous coming from her, wouldn’t it? It was Taehyung with Jungkook, not some other girl. And even if it were, Jungkook was his own person. He had all the rights to go wherever he wanted, with whoever he wanted. Just because she was his girlfriend, he wasn't obligated to give her all the details, and neither did she want to keep tabs on him, never wanted to be that immature, over-possessive, clingy partner she had seen some of her friends become.
But still — was it wrong for her to hurt? She had wanted to explore that cafe with him, take in its beauty in each other's presence, not with other people. It was supposed to be their place, their date. She herself had proposed it. Was it unjustified for her to feel wounded that Jungkook had totally forgot about it and had gone with someone else instead?
