"I love you...I love you, Taehyung."
Taehyung had been feeling his own eyes sting in between Jungkook's low little sobs until now, heart too big in his chest to contain and breathe through the kiss as he had been drowning in the onslaught of emotions, but the moment those words were uttered, his world stopped spinning, stilled heart jumping up to his throat and forcing him to pull away from Jungkook's lips.
Taehyung froze in Jungkook's arms, so saliently that he was certain Jungkook could very much sense that.
"Wh-what happened?" Jungkook asked, innocent and shiny doe eyes a canvas of confusion and trepidation. Taehyung's chest ached for the boy.
"Jungkook," He choked out, "I-..." Why did you say that to me now? Why would you say that when I can't yet muster the strength to say it back?
Taehyung felt penitent, helpless, extremely downhearted, for he was such a godforsaken dickhead! He knew that it was going to hurt Jungkook in one of the worst ways to not receive those words back. It would make him feel insecure, make him feel like Taehyung didn't lo-
God, it freaked Taehyung out to say the 'L' word even in his mind! How was he going to say it out loud to Jungkook now?
And he couldn't even explain his condition to the younger looking at him with curious, wide eyes. Jungkook wouldn't understand. It was impossible for him to understand, because how come Taehyung could say such heartfelt words and genuinely mean them one moment but run away from saying just three simple words the very next?
Oh, Taehyung just wanted to disappear right now. Even though it meant the world to him to hear that phrase, he couldn't help but wish that Jungkook hadn't said it.
It was going to complicate things for them. It was going to ruin everything.
But then Jungkook said something that completely and utterly threw him off, took him aback.
