Taehyung had a feeling that all of it might've been a figment of his imagination.
The way he had danced with Jungkook, the way Jungkook had spoken those comforting words to him when he had been spiralling down, the way the younger had almost admitted how much he meant to him, kissed him and given in to him later on, allowed him to pleasure themselves before they had fallen asleep in each other's arms— all of it.
He remembered everything, since alcohol hardly ever fucked up with his memories— but it did often make him feel and see things that weren't really happening. Just a vicious mechanism his brain had picked up on to make him feel good for a while and nothing but lead him to have his heart broken afterwards to realise the truth.
He was all too familiar with it by now and that's why it piqued his trust issues. Even when the back of his head throbbed due to the hangover he had earned himself, worsened by the bright daylight coming into the room to stir him awake earlier than he would've preferred - all he was truly dreading was opening his eyes and taking in that he was in his own bed, alone and cold, without Jungkook's body entangled with his to provide him the sort of warmth he craved.
But then he felt it.
As his brain slowly started to function and awaken his senses, he felt the weight of someone's arm around his torso, his back pressed against someone's chest and their soft breath tickling the hair at his nape.
Taehyung's breath hitched in the back of his throat. He tentatively blinked open his eyes, one after the other, still very much in disbelief, but an exhale went past his lips as soon as he looked down at the arm holding him. It didn't take him even a second to recognise the defined veins snaked under the smooth ivory skin.
Jungkook. He was there. Right there. It wasn't unreal. It wasn't a figment of Taehyung's imagination.
Taehyung quickly yet carefully - so as not to jostle Jungkook and disrupt his sleep - turned around to face the boy, eyes roaming over his parted lips, his messy hair, his cute button nose with its tip slightly red, his swollen cheeks that appeared paler than usual and extra squishy.
Taehyung couldn't help but touch Jungkook, feel him under his fingertips to make sure he still wasn't in a haze. He delicately caressed the younger's cheek with his thumb, traced his thin lips, the very mole under them that always tempted him to kiss Jungkook. He tucked away a stray lock from the boy's forehead and combed his fingers through his soft hair.
And by the time he was running the tip of his index finger down the slope of Jungkook's nose and it adorably twitched a little even in his sleep, Taehyung - with a fond smile on his face - was completely convinced that Jungkook was really there, believed that his inebriated mind most probably hadn't cooked up the other scenarios as well.
