If you would ask any of Jungkook's close friends or family to describe him in three adjectives, the answer would naturally vary from person to person but one word that most of them would add would be 'loyal'.

The simple twenty year old black-haired boy would never go behind anyone's back or deviate from his commitments. That's how he had grown up under the shadows of his parents who were the ideal example of soulmates, according to him. They fought, yes, like every other couple in the world, but it would mostly be circulated around very trivial matters like Jungkook's diabetic dad eating sweets without his wife knowing or his mum buying her fifty-year old husband trendy gen-z clothes against his will. Never in the two decades had Jungkook heard them arguing about adjustment issues, communication gap or infidelity. They tried and appreciated each other even in the toughest times.

And somewhere that had been carved in Jungkook's brain, that communication and loyalty were the keys to a healthy relationship.

That's what he always followed in order to keep up his own relationship as well. He knew the girl for a long time, since she was the daughter of his father's legal advisor. Sure, it had been awkward at first when they had to start thinking of each other as girlfriend/boyfriend when the boy had never even liked her that way. But he knew his parents' choice had always been the best for him. So, the obedient, responsible son he was, he carried on being with her.

Over the few months though, it turned out to be all good between them, much to his surprise. She was stubborn and demanding sometimes, but she was also caring, responsible. She understood and valued him. She fit easily into his life. Yes, maybe he didn't really feel the 'pull' that those movies always romanticised so much, but there wasn't anything making him want to push her away either. Even in the few little ups and downs sometimes, it was peaceful, happy and healthy.

Until it wasn't.

The moment his mother had cheerfully declared that a certain someone was coming back, Jungkook had known that his time to savour the taste of peace had run out.

Sometimes you are aware of the problems and obstacles. They can be handled, you can build a defense mechanism against them, but how are you supposed to deal with the trouble when you don't even know how and when it's coming?...Like an unexpected bolt that comes out of the blue without any warning. No kind of known defence system works for that. Those kinds of troubles are dangerous, destructive.

To Jungkook, Kim Taehyung turned out to be the definition of that kind of trouble.

The very name had made Jungkook's skin crawl—and not in a good way. It was disgust, hatred and...fear. Unlike Jimin and his other hyungs who liked Taehyung, Jungkook considered him to be the only guy that could drive him up the wall. In the ten years that they had had to live under the same roof, he had possibly attempted everything he could to make Jungkook want to stay away from him.

When they had been kids, it had been limited within silly fights, like when the older would ruin his homework or eat his favourite food without his permission. But as they had grown up, Taehyung had never stopped being a walking hardship in his way of happiness.

From bringing trouble upon Jungkook for the older drinking underage to shamelessly dating Jungkook's crush in front of him. Taehyung had never cared about bro-code because despite growing up together they weren't bros in the first place. Among all the other girls Taehyung would proudly brag about kissing every week, the girl Jungkook liked had to be one of them.

How wasn't Jungkook meant to be absolutely repulsed by the news that Taehyung was coming back to Seoul to finish the final two years of his graduation in the same university as Jungkook, when he couldn't guarantee that Taehyung's eyes wouldn't fall on his girlfriend, Lisa?

She was beautiful, charming, hot — almost Taehyung's type. Even if she wouldn't be, knowing Taehyung, Jungkook feared he would deliberately do something to trouble the waters. Taehyung always had a tremendous amount of fun out of bothering him.

But what Jungkook didn't know was that it wasn't really Lisa that he should've been worrying about protecting from Taehyung.

He didn't think of the possibility that it wasn't going to be the same way anymore, not when the older had other intentions. Taehyung was supposed to cause troubles the usual ways but things didn't go as anyone would have planned.

Again, how are you supposed to deal with the trouble when you don't even know how and when it's coming?

I know this is probably super shitty. Please bear with me. I'm trying to keep this interesting enough. I'm rewriting it but the old plotline will be there. I'm just adding some new extra plots only to spice things up a little. I hope you like it. This was just the prologue. I don't know if you'll keep reading further but thanks to them who will.
