I woke up in a very familiar room. The posters hung on the wall, the bedsheets plain and simple, a laptop in a baby blue case sitting on a white desk, the curtains flapping from the wind, clothes in a pile beside a closet, jackets hung on the door under a sign.
I knew this room. I've known this room for nineteen years. It was once my room.
A room I loved. A room where I spent most of my time reading books. A room where I would invite Jessica to sleep in. A room where many fun events took place.
My room.
I get up from the bed and walk to my mom and dad's room.
This room is all white from the door to the window.
I step inside and see an unfamiliar face. A face I have yet to recognize.
It's not my father.
My father has a bit of hair, with a beard that doesn't hang. He doesn't own a red hot chilli pepper t-shirt because he isn't a huge fan.
This isn't my dad.
"Mom, who's this?" I asked.
She jumped up and put her hand on her heart.
"You scared me, dear." She said.
"Sorry, but who's the guy?" I questioned.
The man sat up and looked at my mom with a confused face.
"This is Giovanni, you know him." She answered.
I looked at her strangely.
I don't know this man and I never have. I would remember him if I had met him before.
"I have no clue who he is," I spoke.
She glanced at the man with a worried expression.
"I think you should go back to sleep honey." The man spoke.
I looked at my mom before diverting my eyes to him.
I didn't know who he was and yet he was calling me honey like I had known him for years.
I decided not to argue, so I closed the door and headed downstairs.
The smell of bacon lingered through the air as I stepped downstairs. I walked towards the kitchen and was surprised to see a young boy making bacon and pancakes.
