The Night Before

Although times were stressful, Jett was feeling content. For the first time in her life, she'd be taking a vacation.

"You all packed for Spira tomorrow?" asked Tirza, her new friend in the Tech Center. Jett nodded. "Bags all packed? What books are you bringing?"

Let's see...a whole bunch. I'm excited to try out some beach reading!

"Yeah. And get some color, would 'ya? You're so pale from being down here all the time," said Tirza.

Well the last time I checked, in order to blow stuff up we need explosives, which I have to make. Jett sealed her last box of the night. There. That's my last one.

"Okay Breezy, she told me that's the last one! Get her home. She works too hard around here," said Tirza.

Breezy whirred and rocked on her struts. It was time to go. Hal was definitely already en-route to her place so they could play cards.

I'll see you when I get back, Tirza.

"Later, Jett! Have fun!" Tirza said, waving as Jett and Breezy walked out the door.

"I want to take a detour, Breezy," Jett signed to her in the elevator. Breezy grunted. "It'll only be for a bit."

The doors of the elevator opened, revealing one of the many pristine Jedi Temple gardens. Jett could sense someone around the corner and started to run. Breezy followed. Sorra came into view, bent over a vegetable plant. She turned, bright-eyed when she saw Jett and Breezy.

"Jett! Hi!" she said, trotting over.

I'm leaving for my big vacation tomorrow. Just wanted to make sure we're still on for lunch when I get back.

"Yeah of course! I wrote it down in my planner!" She took a small tablet out of her pocket. "And look what's scheduled the day before!"

Your trials! I'm so excited for you, Sorra!

"Yeah, so look out! Pretty soon there's gonna be more than one Krayt Dragon who's a Jedi Knight!"

That's amazing. You earned it. Breezy began to nudge Jett's leg. I have to go. Say hi to Master Fee for me.

"I will! I'll see you next week." She knelt down. "And you too, Breezy!"

They said their goodbyes, and Jett made her way to her ship. Breezy put herself in the astromech slot and they were off on their hour flight home. They made sure to stop for fuel first, of course. Jett wanted to leave first thing in the morning.

After fueling up, Breezy brought the ship down onto a rooftop parking spot. Then, she and Jett went up the elevator of the high-rise apartment building. Jett unlocked the door, and Hal was already sitting at the kitchen table, busy sketching up something.

I figured you'd barge your way in again.

"I'm proud of you for coming to that realization. I even ordered the food already," said Hal.

What? Master, you didn't have to do that.

"Silence. Save your credits for your trip. Buy yourself a nice souvenir."

What are you drawing?

Jett set her bag down and sat across from him at the table.

Hal held up his piece of paper. "Look at this. Astromechs, but for rowing boats. I could attach long legs and arms to them. I'd call them...ferry droids! I've got some spare parts...I may even make one tonight when I get back to my place. Why are you looking at me like that?"

You've come up with some crazy things before, Master, but this? An astromech with big arms and legs?

"I think you'd need to see the finished product to really embrace the concept," said Hal. "Just shuffle the cards."

Hang on. I don't want to miss my show!

Jett quickly got up and turned on the wall projector. Her favorite drama began to play in the background.

"No...no! Not with the dramas again!" said Hal.

When we go to your place, we can watch what you want.

The doorbell rang. Jett clapped her hands for Breezy, who removed herself from the charging port against the wall. With the push of a button, the door was open.

"Hey, there's my favorite customer!" said the smiling Rodan at the door.

Jett signed and Breezy followed along.

"Hi Ronn! Let me go get your tip," said Breezy.

Jett ran over to her bag and grabbed the few loose credits she had, then handed them to Ronn. He handed her two bags of food.

"It looks like you're all packed for tomorrow," said Ronn, gesturing to the neatly-stacked bags on the other side of the room. "You'll love Spira. My parents took me there as a kid! It's the most beautiful place in the galaxy."

"I know. I can't wait," said Breezy as Jett smiled.

"And look at this new thing I learned," said Ronn. "Have a good...night!"

Jett watched as he signed the sentence in Galactic Basic. She signed back to him.

"That's amazing, Ronn!" said Breezy.

"Thanks. I'm a work in progress, but I think I'll get there soon enough. I'll see you guys next week!"

Jett waved and shut the door, then sat down again with Hal. They opened the bags and started eating as the purple and orange sunset came through the living room window.
