Chapter 26: Who knew

Even though Kai and Aria merely spend a few days with his family, she already missed them when they were saying goodbye on the sixth of June.

Kai had to go to the training camp and Aria had promised to tag along for a few days.

She would come back to his family after that because friends, girlfriends and wives were only allowed for a short time, to keep the players focused.

So the two of them took all the time they could.

"I'm gonna miss you so bad!" Lea whined while she was hugging Aria. Kai cleared his throat "I never get that warm of a goodbye."

Lea made a rude hand gesture in his direction. "You're what? the nice neighbor from next door?"

"But somehow it's always them who get the girl." Kai replied, smug smile on his face.

"I'm pretty sure Nathan has never gotten any girl." The blonde replied and suspiciously eyed the house next to theirs.

Playfully, Kai slapped her arm. "Oi! Keep Nathan out of this."

Aria watched the two siblings bickering all the way to the car. Laughing to herself she said goodbye to Kai's parents, making sure to thank them enough for their hospitality and kind offer.

"It was so nice to meet you, darling." Emma said with a hearty smile.

"Yes, it really was." Kai's father agreed and Aria felt tears building up.

Laughing she hugged the two adults. "I really cannot thank you enough."

Emma's laugh was replaced with a genuine and sweet smile. "No thank you." Confused Aria shook her head. „What for?"

Emma shrugged. "You know the story of Kai's break up." Aria was not sure what she had been expecting but it certainly wasn't this. "I haven't seen him this content since he parted ways with Marie. So thank you for giving us back our sweet, sweet, boy."

Now, Aria really couldn't keep the tears from falling. People, meaning the Chelsea players, had told her before, that she had been changing Kai for the better but it was nothing compared to hearing Emma say this.

"Aww no!" The woman exclaimed when she saw Aria sobbing in front of her and pulled her into a bone crushing hug. Happy tears rolled down Aria's cheeks when they parted.

"What's going on here?" Kai's worried voice could be heard from behind them. Quickly, Aria wiped her tears away before she turned around and smiled at Kai who frowned at her tear strained cheeks.

A surprised 'Oh' fell from Lea's lips.

"Just a very emotional good bye." Kai's father explained and the two women nodded in agreement. Kai relaxed and Lea laughed a little.

Aria hugged everyone one last time before she got into the car, ready to leave. Kai got in after her and backed out of the drive way.

The Havertz' waved after them until the car turned around a corner and disappeared from their vision.

"Such a lovely girl Aria is." Kai's father said. "I think he finally found his one."

Emma nodded. "I think he knows that too. But he's still too afraid to love."

"Gotta thank Marie for that." Lea mumbled and disappeared into the house. Emma chuckled at her daughter's words.

„What's made for them will find it's way."
