Chapter 41: Grace

Laughing, they left the interview a few moments later.

Aria was feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. She tried to convince herself it was because they were meeting the lions soon.

But it wasn't.

Obviously.

Suddenly Aria's phone rang and she checked the caller id, frowning when she saw it was Alicia, her manager.

"It's a good thing you picked up!" Alicia breathed out, causing Aria to immediately get concerned.

"Why? What is it?"

Kai frowned when he heard the concern in Aria's voice and Aria put her phone on speaker so he could listen too.

"So I've got an E-Mail from..." Alicia trailed off.

"From who Alicia?"

"...from the German government."

Kai sucked in a breath and Aria gasped. "What? Wha- How?- Why even...What does it say?" Aria looked downright scared.

"Klaus apparently has been requesting to see you for some time. He knows your in Germany had been very persistent on the topic." Alicia spoke so fast she was stumbling over her own words.

Had Kai not almost expected this reaction from her, he wouldn't have caught both, Aria's phone and herself as she sunk onto the floor.

Concerned he tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. Aria was staring into the distance completely perplexed.

"Aria?" Came Alicia's voice out of the phone but Kai just put it down to be able to hold Aria.

He felt her shaking viciously in his arms and he heard her ragged breathing.

"Aria?" Kai picked up her phone to answer Alicia when he saw that Aria was incapable of doing so.

"This is Kai. Can Aria call you back later?"

"Oh hey Kai. Yeah sure. Or I can just forward the E-Mail to her."

Kai mumbled an 'Okay great.' And hung up without much of a goodbye.

By the time Aria had collected herself and she looked like calmness in person.

"Aria?" Kai asked a little unsure.

Aria was quickly reading the E-Mail Alicia had forwarded to her. "I'll do it."

Her voice was calm and silent but Kai couldn't believe his ears. "What?!"

"I'll just quickly go to Jogi. We leave tomorrow so this afternoon is the only time I can see him, now that we're in Berlin anyway."

Kai looked at her unsure. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"

"No. But I think I will regret it if I don't do it." It scared Kai how calm and collected she was.

"At least let me come with you."

"No." Kai was about to protest but Aria placed her hand on his arm. "I am certain I can do this. And I want to do it alone."

Kai had a bad feeling about all of it but he knew he was fighting a loosing battle.

"Okay." He sighed. "I'll be here when you come back."

"Thank you."

"Anything for you soulmate." And Kai squeezed her hand lightly.
