Chapter 11 Jay
He could scarcely believe it ,hour ago,he and Sam had been the only intelligent damned he had met and here in front of him was another one namedJesus ( the irony) , with him he had five damned or lesser damned as he referred to them , following him . When Jay had ask for explanation a simple "not here not now " had been the answer , he had hesitated when it came time to follow him , but he had Sam , if anything went sideways they 'd have a chance.
- How close are we ,ask Jay
- Still about half a day , answer Jesus
He looked at the damned
- They haven't ate , since the horse ,would they be okay ? Jay ask ?
Jesus laugh or the equivalent of laugh and said
- We don't need to eat , we are dead in case you didnt notice , sadly most of us dont understand that they think they still need food
- Why are we different ask Jay, why are we more aware , why can I think .
- By looking at you , you were one of the patient zero , no bites , you didnt exactly die, we are the same we are alpha , Jesus answered as for Sam judging by her state , she was bitten by an alpha , which makes her a beta ,still conscious ,still thinking but if she was to bite someone ,theyd be omega , he pointed at the other damned , they are valuable to our cause , they can do various task ,nothing complicated of course , but they can fix fence slowly , a heck of a slow paste but they get the job done I suppose. Any more question ? He finally ask
Jay couldnt believe the other alpha , it was so new , but its somehow make sense and he wonder why would Jesus lie to him but he did have a question.
- How do you know all this , he ask
The usual leadership , charisma of their pack leader disappeared in an instant ,he stopped walking and continued saying
- I was in the developing team , well I was an intern , when i heard of the product id realize the value it would have on the market i wanted to get a free dose .
Why did that sound so familiar thought Jay , he had an odd sense of recollection, but he had never met this man how was it even possible . They walk for a couple of sec and met another damned . They were numerous but more than half of them were scattered here and there , it was odd . Jesus approached the damned , gave some growl and gesture , but the damned nearly attackedhim , it was howling unsure of what to do , Jay watch in silence looking to learn .
Theyre probably wasnt a lot of alpha , and they were important , lot more than omega ,he thought sadly. But the damned leapt at Jesus, the fight ended in seconds he was no match .
- What happened ,ask Jay
- Im not sure , when an omega eats human flesh it changes them they become wild , they are also people being infected by omega , it must be a chemical reaction , but I cant explain it .
He took a deep breath , looked Jay in the eyes and said
- That's why we met , I was on a mission , to search for the damned like you call them before they turn into mindless zombies , you understand? We are running out of time we must act before more are killed .
Jay was too shocked to even talk , the situation was dire , the unaffected could killed damned , and these zombies we're lost forever . That reality brought up a whole new perspective , that instinct he had , what had brought him to the gas station wasnt the food , wasnt the place in itself , it was the damned inside , he was probably still a damned . He could have saved him , he remembered that the damned listen to him somewhat , Jay was crushed , a woman ,and a man had died because of him , he had remembered the pain of having to kill , he didnt quite remember what , he didnt quite remember how , but he remembered being told that it was now a meal and that they depended on it . Jesus looked at him and said
- I know that look , I know that look too well , i have failed many time , but there is no time for sadness , we are dead you will have all the time in the world. Are we finally ready to move on? It takes those omega forever to walk.
Jay was thankful for the change of subject , he hadn't been sure of the man before , had doubted him , even had been cautious around him .But he was a leader and was a strong intelligent man , Jay surprised himself imagining what Jesus was like before shit had hit the fan . They walk and walk for a while they didnt meet the half a day mark , until they stumble on a village , something was off about this place , till he saw one no two , omega they where digging trenches around the town all except at one place .
- What are they doing ? ask Jay
- They are working day and night, answer Jesus
- I mean why are they digging here , he ask again
- We will filled those trenches with water omega aren't really good in the water , they listen but only for so long the alpha answer , that way they don't leave deadtopia
- Deadtopia , ask Jay confused
Jesus smiled , and said pointing
- Prepare yourself to have your world shaken , Jay this is where our specie will survive, welcome home.
