You shift on your feet and raise your sword to block your opponent's sword. The two swords collide in a ring of steel, and you leap forward to give yourself momentum, slashing your sword upward, but your opponent dodges and your momentum carries you too far forward. You stumble and try to turn around, but are too slow to block the next blow. Your sword is twisted from your hand and falls to the ground a few feet away. Your opponent's sword comes to rest in front of your chest.
Fili raises an eyebrow. "This time you did better- but don't forget not to let your momentum carry you too far. You rely on it too much, try and plant your feet more firmly in the ground."
You push away his sword and go to retrieve yours. "Thanks. I'll try that, then."
You both raise your swords again. Fili rushes at you with a direct hit to your defensive position, making you shift your weight- but you remember his warning just in time and stand your ground firmly. His sword ricochets off yours. You use the opportunity to slash at his side, but he parries and lands a blow of his own on your sword.
You almost lose your grip but spin in a quick circle to gain more momentum, and this time it works, giving you the strength you need to twist Fili's sword from his grip.
"I win!" You exclaim, pointing your sword at his heart.
"Not quite," Fili grins, and he tackles you, making you drop your sword in the process.
He tries to push you down, and the two of you wrestle for a few minutes, until he finally pins you under him.
"I believe I won." He smiles.
Kili walks into the clearing where you had been swordfighting. He raises an eyebrow at the scene.
"Wow," he says. "I thought you two were supposed to be swordfighting."
You and Fili immediately turn scarlet.
"We were-"
"It's just-"
"Kili!!"He grins. "Well then, I'll leave you two lovebirds to it then." He walks away, ignoring your protests.
Fili stands after he leaves and offers you a hand to get up. You take it, hoisting yourself to your feet.
"Well," he says, "Do you want to try again? Finally, your momentum does help your fighting style, but remember not to be too dependent on it."
"Sure!" You go to retrieve your sword.
Your sword meet again in a clash of steel, and Fili smiles.
"You really have gotten better at swordfighting." He compliments you as he tries to slash at your side. "When I started teaching you, you could barely hold up the sword."
"Well, I learned from the best." You laugh, sidestepping his attack.
You hit his sword with the flat of the blade, and it flies from his grip. You smile.
"I win!"
