You sped through the trees on your horse, wind throwing your hair back from your face as you held onto the reins as best you could.

The wound in your side felt as if a dozen spears were piercing it at once, but you had an urgent message to get to Lord Elrond and you couldn't stop until it was delivered.

"Come on—" You gasped to yourself. "Just a little farther—"

Your horse splashed through the river and you were in Rivendell. You didn't stop, and your horse sped further until you could see the house of Elrond.

You could already see people coming out to see who you were, but as you pulled on the reins and tumbled down from your horse with a groan of pain, the first person to reach you was a beautiful dark-haired elf. She ran to you and knelt by your side.

"Orcs," you said as quickly as you could, because you felt the pain taking over. "Only a few hours away. Tell Lord Elrond... To prepare..."

"Yes, of course," she said, and her voice was beautiful and soft, and you felt yourself slide peacefully into the darkness, the pain in your side receding...

"We need a healer!" You heard her shout, distantly as though you were far away.

At least, you thought, the last thing you would see was...

The thought slid from your mind as the darkness claimed you as its own.

Everything was silent. You could feel yourself floating on something soft and warm—

You opened your eyes, blinked a few times. You were in a room, filled with golden light. You were also lying in a soft bed, and sitting by your bedside was the beautiful elf you had seen earlier.

She turned to you with a brilliant smile. "You're awake!"

"I... Yes." You tried to smile back, then remembered why you had come to Rivendell. "Lord Elrond! I must notify him! There is a company of orcs—"

You tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in your side made you fall back into the sheets.

"Don't worry." She smiled at you again. "The message made it to him. He prepared a defence in time and nobody was harmed, thanks to your warning."

You let out a sigh of relief and closed your eyes.

"What is your name?" She asked curiously. "I don't think I've ever seen you in Rivendell before."

"Oh, no." You opened your eyes again to look at her. "I've never been before. But I'm Y/N."

"And I am Arwen, Lord Elrond's daughter." She placed her hand on top of yours on the sheets. "Thank you for coming to warn us. You have saved many lives."

"You're welcome." You smiled back at her.

"Perhaps when you get better, I could show you around the gardens?" She suggested, shifting her chair to come closer to the bed.

"Yes," you answered, holding onto the hand she had placed on yours. "I think I'd like that."
