The night was truly beautiful. The stars above you were brilliant in the indigo sky, and the moon hung in a shining crescent above the mountains in the distance.
And sitting beside you was the elf you loved the most in the world, enjoying this beautiful night with you.
You and Legolas had been together for a few years by now, and you had to admit, these had been some of the best years of your life.
Legolas was kind, caring, patient, and ready to do anything for you. Really, you considered yourself infinitely lucky to be with him, just as he always said he was infinitely happy to be with you.
He'd brought you on so many adventures, brought you to see so many beautiful sights, taken you dancing to the most wonderful music.
Beside you, Legolas turned to look at you with a soft smile. "Do you like the view, meldanya?"
(my dear)
You smiled back and shifted closer to him. "It's even more beautiful with you here."
He laughed quietly. "Oh, you flatter me."
And then he looked away, glancing at the ground and seeming suddenly nervous.
You frowned, turning to face him more. "Are you all right, Legolas? Is something wrong?"
"No," he said, looking at you again with a small smile and eyes bright. "I love you so much."
"And I love you," you answer honestly, though still a little confused. "You know I do."
Legolas gave a quiet sigh and shifted so that he was kneeling before you. He slipped something from his sleeve into his hand and held it towards you— a ring.
A beautiful silver ring, with an ornate design of leaves around it that shine in the moonlight.
"Oh," you gasped.
"My love," Legolas said, looking up at you. "I have loved you since the moment I met you. We started off as friends, and I treasured your friendship, and you made me the happiest person alive when you agreed to be my lover. You are beautiful, kind, intelligent, and perfect. I have enjoyed being with you for all the years I've been by your side, and now I ask you with all the love in my heart: will you marry me?"
You froze, listening to him say all these wonderful things about you.
"I would not hold it against you if you said no," Legolas continued kindly. "If I am going too fast, I'd wait for a hundred more years if you wanted me to. I love you, more than anything. What do you say?"
You finally unfroze and laughed, to his slight concern. But his expression changed when you said, "Yes, yes, yes! Of course I'll marry you, Legolas— I love you so much, you're perfect, and nothing would make me happier than spending the rest of my life with you."
You took his hand that was holding the ring in both of your hands and pulled him forwards into a soft kiss.
When you both pulled apart, smiling and laughing, he slipped the ring onto your finger and you both sat together again, hand in hand, and watched the sky that seemed even more beautiful now.
You promised to yourself that whenever you looked up at the night sky and saw the stars, you would always think back to this perfect moment.
