Love in Unexpected Places

Chapter 9

Lexus was in the kitchen with her parents who hadn't noticed a thing out of place with her and Alex. They were trying her brownies.

            “These are delicious Lexus, what did you put in them?” Thomas

            “Brownie mix and chocolate syrup.” Answered Lexus

            “Chocolate syrup?” said her mother scrutinizing.

'           “That’s Lexus's secret ingredient,” Alex said as he entered the kitchen.

            .Audrey called Adrian  as she finished cutting the brownies, handing one to Alex and setting two aside for Adrian and Evelin.

            Adrian and Evelin set the book down as Adrian went to answer his mothers call Evelin walked in step with him to the kitchen.

            “You’ve got to be kidding me, Chocolate syrup?” Her dad said looking astounded at her.

            “Yes, chocolate syrup. It keeps them moist.”

            Thomas shook his head.

            Audrey handed Evelin and Adrian there brownies. Lexus looked at Evelin who was munching on her brownie. “Do you like them? There my specialty.”

            “There great. Chocolate Syrup it’s brilliant.” Evelin said opening up and becoming personable.

            “I thought so. It’s Evelin right?”     

            “Yeah.”          

            “How old are you Evelin?”

            “Seventeen,”

            “Oh, your a year younger than Alex and I.” Lexus said.

            That reminded Evelin of her question. “Why are you Alexandra and Alexander?

            Lexus and Alex laughed that was there question. Why they couldn't have there own names. Audrey went to answering the question. “Well Evelin, when I was Pregnant, we were certain we wanted the baby to be name Alexander for a boy and Alexandra for a girl. But it turned out we got both, so you get Alex and Lexus.” Audrey but her arms around her oldest children's shoulders, they dwarfed her but by just the sound in her voice you could tell that she loved them.

            “Lexus what other special ingredient are in your food?” Adrian asked slightly curious and slightly worried what else she might have put in it. Lexus was a good cook but she tended to add in weird thing, Chocolate syrup wasn't all that weird for her.

            “You'll have to taste it and find out,” she said laughing.

            The door bell rang. Audrey and Thomas went to answer the door. Lexus and Alex went with them to greet the guests. Adrian and Evelin stayed in the kitchen. Evelin was admiring Adrian's home again, she liked how authentically old it looked, even though it was built recently. Adrian walked beside Evelin and picked up her hand.

            Evelin looked at him but didn't object, she told herself it was just to be polite because she was his date. But really she liked when he held her hand or put his arm over her shoulder.

            Adrian lead her into the living room were guest were arriving plentifully. Adrian talked to the guests as they arrived. Mostly small talk about his life, but Evelin noted most didn't really care about his answers. A few people gave Evelin a Who are you look?, but no one spook to her. Sense Evelin wasn't talking, she listened to the conversations around her. She caught from conversation that Audrey was a Author and that Adrian's dad worked for the Utopian hotel company.

            The Utopian hotel company was one of the bigger hotel chances in the America and was starting to become a contender in internationally. They worked on the idea of giving everyone the perfect stay. Evelin had stayed in one once on a school trip to Seattle. They were nice.
