Love in Unexpected Places

Chapter 27

Adrian hopped on crutches into school and first period.  He sat down in first period arriving before Evelin. She came in a few minutes later. Adrian noticed her cast wrist.  Evelin sat in front of him, but payed direct attention to Adrian.

"Your on crutches." Evelin expected it to be more of a question but it came out as an statement.

"Yeah, I sprained my ankle. Is your wrist okay?"

"Yes no big deal." Evelin noticed Adrian had an extra bag, "You have my book bag!"

"Yes, I got it when they cleaned out my car," Adrian said sadly.

"I heard it was totaled."

"Yes,  my poor Rang Rover. If only I had pulled over it would have saved everyone a lot of trouble.”

It took Evelin a second to absorb his words, “You blame yourself for the crash?”

            “How could I not. I killed someone who went to Willowcreek High School, someone just like us and you have a broken a wrist and are recovering from a concussion.

            “Adrian this is stupid! You didn't kill Kelly, You couldn't see her and she couldn't she you until you hit. You were driving in the mountains coming around a corner. And Adrian I have hurt myself worse than this.” Which was true Evelin had broken her fore arm, elbow, and ankle.”

            “You haven't been hurt because of me.”

            “So were just very fortunate were Kelly didn't have our luck.” Evelin said, Adrian noted how familiar Kelly sounded as she spoke it.

            “You knew her?”

            “Yes. We were acquaintances”

            “So why can't you see that I killed her?

            “No, I don't it was an accident I wish you could see that.” Evelin said and then held Adrian's hand. It was substantially  bigger then hers, it enveloped her her small female hand. She rubbed his tense finger they were tense probably very alike the rest of his body,

            Adrian enjoy feeling Evelin rubbing his fingers. To him it was great to have her begin to start there touching which had been almost all priorly lead by Adrian. The teacher began to actually teach the class. Adrian rubbed underneath Evelin's cast which felt good to the itchy skin. There teacher would have yelled at them if it weren't that they were playing direct attention. Class ended and Evelin and Adrian separated onto there opposing classes.

Evelin and Adrian were irritated by lunch, too many people asking them about how they were injured and after word got out that they were in the crash the subject became how it felt and if they saw Kelly die. Saying the same thing a hundred times was extremely repetitive.

            Evelin sat across from Alba and Lucilia who were both doing some last minute homework. Neither Alba and Lucilia were up to conversation, both quite for the exception of questions of math formulas and plot points.

            Evelin picked at her lunch feeling awkward to be the only one eating. She had make up work to do, but that sounded incredibly unappealing.

            Adrian didn't want to eat lunch with Alex and Lexus. He witnessed Evelin sitting with her friends on the other side. Adrian sat down next to Evelin putting his arm over her shoulders that were covered by a purple sweatshirt.

            Evelin was startled when a arm touched but looked up to see Adrian and greeted Adrian with a gentle smile.

            Alba and Lucilia were surprised to see Adrian with his arm around Evelin. They were both distracted from there homework.
