TW⚠️: mentions of a toxic relationship?

The comforting smell of coffee filled the air of the peaceful café. The small table you sat down at gave you a view of the whole café and the people in it. You could see some people were meeting up with their friends, some were studying, and some just seemed to grab a drink. But you hadn't come to the café for any of those reasons, in fact you just went there to relax a bit. And that's exactly what you were able to do. It didn't take long for outside sounds to drift away into the distance as your own thoughts and problems consumed your mind.

The last six months had been complicated to say the least. Your "best friend", Mitsuya, got a girlfriend. Of course you were happy for him, you really were, but that didn't mean you weren't hurting. You see, you had feelings for Mitsuya and had them for a long time, so it hurt to see him with someone else. To see him laugh, to see him hug, to see him kiss someone else, it really hurt you. But the only person you could blame was yourself. You were the one who was too much of a coward to confess your feelings to him. You were just too scared of rejection or ruining your friendship, so, even though it hurt more than anything else in the world, you'd support their relationship. Because Mitsuya was happy and that's all that mattered. At least that's what you would've said a few months ago. But now, you just couldn't support them.

Mitsuya and his girlfriends relationship was the perfect relationship at first. Mitsuya immediately became happier when he started dating her. Each day you could see his eyes become brighter and brighter and fill with more and more love. His whole life brightened when he met her and when they started dating, he became even brighter. That was until a couple months ago, when you realized something was wrong with Mitsuya. He looked extremely drained. His face was more pale than normal, his eyes had large, dark bags under them, and he barely smiled, which was very weird. This already put you on edge, but when he started canceling your plans and missing Toman meetings, you started becoming very concerned. You and all your friends became even more concerned when he said that he had given up one of his favorite things, sewing. Mitsuya loved sewing so much, in fact he was the president of the sewing club, so him giving up sewing was a big deal. This only raise your concerns more, but when you tried to talk to him, he wouldn't say anything. So the situation went nowhere. That was until a couple of weeks ago.

Every week you and Mitsuya would meet up in the park and just walk around and do whatever you both wanted. Sometimes you both went shopping, other times you both ended up napping in the field of grass the park had, and sometimes you'd both spend all day playing with Luna and Mana. Those times were your favorites and it was easily the thing you looked forward to the most each week. So when Mitsuya actually came to the park, you were ecstatic, until you saw his face. He looked more drained than ever, hell he didn't smile when you both greeted each other. Your concern grew as each awkward minute passed, but you were determined to make him smile today. So, you took him to the yearly fair they had in the area.

The fair was everything you imagined. Beautiful, colorful lights lined all the streets of the fair. There were food stands that had super unhealthy food, but foods that tasted amazing . Adrenaline filled rides were all over the area, where you saw huge lines of people waiting to go on. And of course, the classic fair games were there. The both of you ended up having an amazing time. The both of you waited in so many ridiculously long lines to get onto the rides that you spent half the time waiting. Unfortunately you had eaten before going on the largest ride there, and you puked after. Mitsuya, thankfully helped you, but then teased you later. You, of course, ate some classic fair food and got scammed on each and every one of the fair games there was, which was a huge waste of money. But it was all worth it. Because for the first time in so long, you saw Mitsuya's huge bright smile. Even it was just for a moment, it was still a smile, one that could light up the darkest places. The smile you had longed to see. Even better, Mitsuya looked almost refreshed up until that fateful moment.
